So, name some concerts you have seen lately. And rate them, 1-10.

Maynard Fuergosen and the Big Noveau Bop Band-10
Beach Boys-2, 5 after the sound tech pulled his head out

Recently?

Biffy Clyro - 10/10
Local bands - on average 4/10

That's about it. I've been going to a stupidly low number of big name concerts lately, just an awful lot of local bands.

My dad saw Judas Preist last week, and didn't take me. Said something about Cinderalla opening for them, but I don't reme, ber if that was this time, or if he was talking about other tours he's seen them on.

Matthew Good Concert - 10 out of 10
He sure as hell knows how to get a place going. And his rendition of Time Bomb and 21st Century Living were kick ass.

This year I went to only two...

Iron Maiden w/Dream Theater opening in Paris 10
Therion in Montreal 8

That said I paid an insane ammount of money to see it, and the French bastards made me throw out my smuggled vodka.

But so worth it.

My life can be divided pre-Maiden and post-Maiden now.

Violent Insight and Decreation: 7/10 the keyboard wasn't loud enough for VI, the live vocals for Decreation aren't too special

Porno Pandas and "A Band Called Pain": 8/10 It wasn't the Pandas' best show, by far. ABCP was pretty cool, but I like the Porno Pandas better

last "big name" concert was Cradle of Filth and Arch Enemy, and that was a 9/10 (Cradle's set list could have been a tad better, but overall it kicked ass)

This year (besides the billions of times I've seen 'pub bands') I've seen Shihad at the town hall and the D4 at Bodega bar. Both kicked copious amounts of ass.

The last I saw were Queens of the Stone Age. I'd give them 8.5/10, 'cause it would have been better with Nick Olivieri and Mark Lanegan, and they didn't play "Better Living Through Chemistry". Definitely still glad I saw them though.

Seeing an Aussie band called Spiderbait this Saturday, and they usually put on a good show.

Other standouts I saw this year were Mudhoney (9.5), the Hives (10), and System of a Down (8).

Spiderbait should be a solid gig from what I hear.

Yeah, i've seen them before. They're always fun.

I'm especially looking forward to this one, though, because it's a "greatest hits" tour, and they'll play a lot of their old stuff. :)

EDIT- Oh yeah, and I might be seeing Nile in a couple of weeks.

Saw Nine Inch Nails in Madison a few weeks ago, as they are my favorite band of all time, it gets an obvious 10/10.

Queens of the Stone Age opened for em, they get a 6/10 for energy, even if all the songs sounded roughly the same.

Only other concert I went to recently was Ozzfest last August in Milwaukee (well, not Milwaukee, but nearer to there than any other town you might have heard of)

Considering the multitude of bands there that I had always wanted to see (Arch Enemy, Rob Zombie, In Flames, Mudvayne, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath) that one would have to get a 10/10 as well.

hmm last gig i went to was probably back in april or so, and i couldn't go to download festival or reading :(

so last gig i saw was God Forbid playing at the Cardiff barfly. tiny venue, fucking loud, awesome music, sadly not much of a pit... however i did get to stand right at the front (i have a knack for getting there nowadays :D) and do a bit of good ol' fashioned headbanging right infront of the vocalist :)
overall, 7 out of 10, but mostly brought down because of the venue. got to hang out with the band for a while after though, so that brings the score back up to a 9 :P
saw them live supporting Machine Head last year as well, and they were almost better than the headliners in a better venue

next gig: Pitchshifter in March next year, superw00t! *crosses fingers for backstage pass!*
that is unless i decide to go see the Prodigy next month first...

65daysofstatic (twice) - 9.5/10 the first time, 11/10 the second.
Tom McRae - 8.5/10
SOAD - 7.5/10
Was going to see The Fall last Tuesday, but they cancelled on the day of the gig
And I'm going to see Tom McRae (again) next Tuesday, and the Voodoo GlowSkulls the Saturday after that. Then maybe 65daysofstatic (yet again - 6th time this year if I do) on the 21st.
And next year, I'm seeing Soulfly and Bauhaus on consecutive days in Manchester :)

I haven't been to any big shows recently, but I did see Group X last Saturday.

I'd give them an 8 or a 9.

Saw the Pixies in July. They get a 7 because of the high cost, the venue, and that they didn't play either "Rock Music" or "Break My Body." I missed the opening band.

Saw Amorphis in May, I think it was. Gets a 9. The cost was more reasonable, the venue much smaller (and better) and I liked the opening bands. (Beyond the Embrace and Into Eternity)

Saw Local H sometime last year (for the 4th time), couldn't see them this year. :( They get an automatic ten. The openers there were decent enough in concert (Furtherdown (a local band) and the Velvet Idols) but the Velvet Idols are too poppy on CD for my liking.

Saw the Used not too long ago in Manchester - they get a 9... Overall a 7 due to emo wannabes and moshers pushing around all the time.

Went to the Leeds Fest. also this year which gets an overall 10.
The best bands there were Art brut (8), Alkaline Trio (9), QOTSA (7), The Killers (9), Arctic Monkeys (7), Funeral for a Friend (9), Incubus (7), NoFX (6), Iron Maiden (9), Razorlight (7), Maximo Park (10), Kasabian (7), Mylo (8), Ralph Myerz & The Jack Herren Band (9), Babyshambles (6), The Arcade Fire (6), Hot Hot Heat (7),YCNI:Milo (8), Bloc Party (8), Futureheads (8), Foo Fighters (7), Kings of Leon (10), The Coral (9)...

Thats about it! Apart from a 10 for Your Vegas - an unsigned band from Leeds, UK.

I saw "Meatloaf" this past August. He is losing steam. It was alright if you're already a fan, though. I wouldnt go again.

I saw VanHalen with Sammy Hagar-I think it was last summer- the GoldenRings Tour-or something like that. It was great-I like them with Sammy best.

Social Distortion at the Rave in Milwaukee in Sept or Oct --10/10- one of the best shows i have ever seen!

Dropkick Murphys-- same venue- last week-- 9.5/10, only because I saw the social D show first

oh yeah, and I am going to go see Dead Kennedys on Sat at the Rave- VIP treatment and all :-)

other than that-- Eve6 shows were always good shows- saw one about two years ago (9/10)- and Godsmack show last year-- not so bad-- I'd give it a 7/10, i think my husband enjoyed it more than i did.

---- I love a good concert- nothing gives you a bigger rush and lets you get out more stress, aggression, and everything else- i am totally spent at the end

I went to Green Day in august. I have to rate it 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would have rated going to see them as a 10 pre-concert anyway though because I had been waiting to see them live for nearly 15 years. ;)

So you know either way the concert would have rocked. My husband on the other hand is not such a rabid Green Day fan, in fact he didn't even know any of thier songs, and hadn't heard of them until he met me, and he said it was the best concert he had ever been to in his entire life. :D

so I think 11 would be fair :D

Saw them in '93 myself. I would have rated them as a 6/10 and a couple of points of that were for the Op Ivy cover.

yeah they covered knowledge at this concert it was cool too. I think my big obsession with Green Day is that I have kinda grown up with them. I got my first LP from my sister when I was like 9 and it seemed to fit my life so much right then, and every album since has seemed to fit (except for warning that sucked). That and it was my first major rebellion against my parents that they knew about, my sis who brought me the LP also brought me a shirt that said on the back "EAT YOUR PARENTS" and on the front it had a cartoon of a kid holding a brain and said "GREEN DAY".

I wore the shirt to the concert (it is kinda small now that I am a grown up) I think it was my last big thing before I have to "grow up" ;)

3 Colours Red at Manchester Academy 3 - 10 (one of my favourite bands, and my favourite venue :))

Depending how lately you mean... saw REM at Old Trafford sometime in June, I'd give them about a 7. Good but I got bored.

Got Alice Cooper (yay!) and Prodigy coming up this month :)

Santana in Sacramento - 9
in Portland - 8
in Concord -10 (yeah, I really like Santana, and Robert Randolph played with him)

Steve Miller, George Thourogood and Greg Kihn - 10 (Joe Satriani guested)

Robert Cray - 8

Johnny Lang - 9

Bridge schoo Benefit w/ Crosby Stills Nash and Young, John Mellencamp, Emmy-Lou Harris, Jerry Lee Lewis (he still rocks!), Good Charlotte (excellent!) and others - 8

Chet Helms Memorial Tribal Stomp in Golden Gate Park w/ Canned Heat, Country Joe and the Fish, Lydia Penske and too many others to list - 10

That covers the last 60 days or so........If you were to ask me again in a couple of weeks I'd add the Eagles to that list. I left out about 4 small Blues bands that I caught at the Torch club on different weekends.
