But... but... HOW DOES IT WORK?

REALLY? Try this webpage (http://www.freakycards.com/) and see if you can't figure it out. I've been thinking and thinking about the thrice-damned thing, and I can't for the life of me think how it works? Any programmers who would have any ideas?

All the cards you can choose are removed.
Sherlock Holmes would have not been fooled by such a simple substitution...

OH! Tricky bastards.
You must be a damn sight cleverer then me to have figured that out.

Eh. I managed to fool it five times, though I'm not sure how it works.
Edit: Scratch that...Figured it out.

Oh, bravo. They remove every card they give you as an option, supplying cards of the same number and same color, but of a different suit so that it looks like the same set of cards. Very clever, indeed.

Actually, it is two fewer cards, but yeah, it works by cheating.
It is clever though, like any other magic trick I have ever seen. Get the audience to focus on something other than what you are doing, and you can break their nose without anyone seeing.

This is the most mystifying part of the whole thing. They remove every card you could have chosen, so it is impossible to fool it.

I tried that years ago in the comp rooms at school with someone else. When we both realised it had worked, I said 'so you were thinking of __ card too?' and he said 'nah I had __'. We worked it out rather quickly from there.

What I'm curious about is why they make you choose A or B at the beginning. A is duller while B is brighter. I wonder if this has anything to do with weather someone would be better at remembering details from complex pictures (A) or simple shapes (B). If that was true it would make it easier to fool you. I guess it could also be there simply to further distract and confuse you.
