I have had a stressful week and was looking for a thred that didn't require much thought at all. I didn't find one so here is my offering.

Do you have any pets?

What are they?

What are their names?

What is something quirky/funny you do for your pet?

Do they do tricks?

If you don't have a pet now, use a childhood pet, if you have never had a pet I guess answer for your dream pet and make sure we know that this pet isn't real so us pet owners don't get jealous of how cool your pet is compared to ours.;)

Me.

Do you have any pets? yes

What are they? I have a dog, he is a german shepard/chow/wolf mix

What are their names? His name is Buddy, my 4 year old named him that, and he is her best friend.

What is something quirky/funny you do for your pet? In the summer he gets ice water outside, and every other day he gets "brushy time" that lasts for about 45 min.

Do they do tricks?
My kids have been able to teach him to sit and shake. I can click my tongue and he will run barking at whoever I look at while I am doing it, he stops about 3 feet short but by the time he gets there they are already running away. He looks like the type of dog that would eat you, but he won't. My kids climb all over him, and he lets them. Once my 4 year old cut her own hair and she cut his too, he just laid still and let her do it, he even rolled over and let her cut hair on his tummy. Also, he herds the kids wherever I tell him, if I am cooking and I tell him to take the kids to the living room, he walks circles around them until they are in there (kinda like our herding dogs used to do with cows when I was little on the farm)

Have fantastical beliefs and kill each other over them, among other things.

I used to have a German shepard/collie mix named Budweiser. Got him from an animal shelter. Now I have no pets, but I'd like to get another dog when I move to a place where the landlord allows them. Maybe a pitbull. They're cute dogs, and aren't dangerous if they're raised right. I'd love to be able to keep orangutans, but I think it's illegal, they're high maintainance and they stink up the place. If I were rich enough to have a private zoo I'd get a couple of orangutans.

i had a pet, a 16 year-old cat named Buster. now he's dead :(
went about two months ago - we all miss him lots.

he was no fuckin lap cat... oooh no. waay too proud for that :P
tricks? no fucking way :p at least, not on demand. he would eat cheese with his paws though, wich was pretty cool, and he could stand on his hind legs pretty much indefinatley - we swear he thought he was human :)

I am sorry for your loss. My cat died this time last year at the age of 18. It was really hard to have an animal that long, I couldn't remember life without Toodles.
It is fun to remember all the cool stuff she did though;)

I'm not lazy enough to need someone to get the remote for me, and I don't like beer. But I'm sure many humans would do them if I asked. Others might need persuasion/coercing.

I am terrifed of pit bulls, mostly because I saw one attack my friend when we were like 5.:( I know that he was raised to be a fighting dog and that most of the pits around here are too, so I am really really afraid. It would be cool if someone would train one and it would get famous like that Jack Russel on Fraiser did. Redeem the pits!!!! I feel kinda dumb being afraid of them because my dog is bigger and meaner looking. (the average pit around here weighs like 50 pounds where my dog weighs like 90)

Do you have any pets? Yes

What are they? A cat

What are their names? She's called Rakete (German for "rocket")

What is something quirky/funny you do for your pet? She loves to watch/look at water, so I'll sometimes turn up the tap a little and let her watch the trickling water

Do they do tricks? No, but she's good at training me to feed her, play with her, open the doors and cuddle with her whenever she wants

I got a Belgian Malinois, Edel. She's 15 months old, and knows plenty of tricks. Today she got to come with me to school in the bus and train and in the classroom.
She can jump over things, jump on top of them, sit, down, stay, fetch, catch, make an 8-form around my legs, walk a circle around me, turn around, junp over my leg, give a paw, a high five, play dead, search hidden toys and cookies, walk through a tunnel, walk backwards and lots more. :D

She's also very social to other dogs and humans, is sweet to children, and loves having her picture taken :p

absolutley, it is hard to remember life without your beloved pet - they become part of your family or who you are after that long. without them there's just a piece of the puzzle missing, something you can't put your finger on, but you know its not there :(
especially hard for myeslf to imagine life without Buster because we got him when i was about 4 years old, so i literally can't remember life before him :p

Do you have any pets?
My family has a veritable menagerie between them, although less than normal.

What are they?
Two cats, a dog, a chinchilla, a rabbit and three horses.

What are their names?
Bubble and Squeak, Indy, Tails, can't remember the rabbit (Terrible, I know :S), Tetley, Skye and Wilf (Although that's not his 'proper' name).

What is something quirky/funny you do for your pet?
When she was young, the chinchilla's tail would spin 'round if you turned her upside down. That's how she got her name ;)

Do they do tricks?
Indy will do some of the standard tricks. Horses are mad and get up to all sorts of weird things

I like pitbulls precisely because they're not very large, but you don't look effeminate when walking one. I've met a few that were very nice, friendly, cute dogs. I've also met a few that would bite off any part of your body that was within their reach. It's all in how you raise them.

intellectually I know that, but my gut reaction is fear.
My dog could be super mean if he was raised to be (he is part wolf, that's a wild animal) but he isn't because he was raised to be a family dog, logically that would be the same for pits, but in the pits of my stomache I am very afraid....

I had Alaskan Malamutes and German Shepherds when I was a kid. All well-behaved, well trained dogs- part of the family.
My wife and I had a cat before we were married. It was more like an aloof room mate- not at all affectionate-and basically a pain in the ass.
We have three kids now-thats all I can properly care for, until they get a little older. When they are able to clean up SOME of their own mess and give some attention to a pet, I will probably get a dog.

Maybe one of those medium sized Australian sheep herder dogs- I dont know the proper name. I know they are very intelligent and good with kids. I'll do more research before I get one.

Do you have any pets? Yes

What are they? Dogs

What are their names? Blue(male) and Tess(female)

What is something quirky/funny you do for your pet? Throw food up in the air and see who jumps up first to get it.

Do they do tricks? Ummm Sit, Lie? Flick your hand up in the air so that you know they want a cuddle:) and if they haven't met you they like to jump up and put their paws on your gut.

I would like a German Sheperd though:D

We used to have a big silly golden retreiver named Oscar.

He didn't really have much in the way of tricks appart from his singing along with my sister and ada when they played trumpet...

He did how ever have a long list of odd behaviours:
1: The extreme dislike of Collies and desire to kill them (no idea why he singled out collies).
2: being totally maddly in love with water and swimming, he used to start hyper ventilatng when ever we passed a alrge body of water in the car and woudl quite happily swim out into 6ft swells at the beach...
3: being super freindly to anyone, if you came near our garden he would rush up to the gate and bark at you, in the hope you would pat him, of course we told those kids in the neighbourhood who we didn't like that he would eat them if they came into our garden, so his excited greating woudl scare msot people...
4: Preffering to lie on long grass: a particualrly annoying one here, when you would cut the grass he woudl always move over to the next bit of uncut grass so you had to keep moving him (he had no fear of the lawn lower).

I realise that in writing soem of his oddities don't seem that notable but when you encountered him in real life...

I have a cat, which we call Elviira. We don't know her original name, she turned up as a stray 7 years ago, just after our previous cat had been run over by a car. She doesn't do anything particularly remarkable, though she's the terror of the mice in the neighborhood.

Some years ago we had a dog named Woffe. Unfortunately we had to leave him alone a lot, since all of us were either working or at school. He got quite skilled at opening the door and getting out, it became a contest between his attempts to break out and our attempts to keep him in. One day he got out and boarded a bus.

I didn't see it myself, of course, but I was told that he just followed a schoolgirl into the bus. Presumably everybody thought he was the girl's dog. Fortunately he got off at the next stop, so he had no trouble finding his way home.

i have a dog, a silky terrier/schnauzer mix.

she's silver/gray with silky hair and tan paws

her name is Molly

she's a cute little bugger.

when free, she runs around in circles and digs holes everywhere.

if she sees a rabbit or squirrel (etc.) she starts growling/whining... if I let her off her leash, she chases it until either

a)it finds a tree

b)it finds a hole

c)she catches it

she's a great dog.

she sounds cute. My mom used to have a cocker spaniel/schnauzer mix, she just looked funny. (cocker ears and legs with curly hair and schnauzer "beard") but she mated with a poodle so those puppies were super cute (well, so ugly they were cute)

Do they do tricks?
Max knows: sit, stay, target (fetch), lay down, speak, shake, and will walk to wherever we point and sit down. He also has an extensive vocabulary when it comes to words we use with him (walk, treat, leash, bed etc...)

Do you have any pets? Absolutely!

I have a 125 pound Neopolitan Mastiff who is just over 2 years old.

What are their names? Symon Blue
What is something quirky/funny you do for your pet? Just love him, he sleeps in bed with us which usually means that he gets 3/4 of the bed, and we get to share the other 1/4!

Do they do tricks? The normal stuff, although he does know how to open screen doors, and is quite good and destroying couches!

I have a cat named Evil.

Evil washes himself with soap. I'm not kidding! Occasionally, while you're in the shower(Evil loves to sit by the shower while you're taking one), he will lick the bar of soap and proceed to lick himself. Every so often, he will lick the bar and continue.

Evil has about a four-foot vertical leap when startled. :D

I suspect that Evil is plotting global conquest, but I have yet to catch him at it.
