The question was asked on NineMsn (http://www.ninemsn.com.au) today and seemed to poll quite well. But let's see what the international community thinks. Since Australia already shuts down for two-three hours for the actual race and subsequent piss up, on Melbourne Cup Day. Should we just bite the bullet and call it a national holiday?

Poll will be Comming Soon...

It's so true. I was the only person left the executive offices upstairs (i'm technically a P.A.) and I went to main offices next door and they had all left for the pub. Same go for the entire building. So I went outside to get some lunch and all the cafes and restaurants were clossed. The only movements were some drunks heading to the beach chanting "nananana, nananana, hey hey hey... gooooooooooood bye!"

Bugger off! I just found out we have a liquor fridge, so I'm going to "work" drunk.

The USA will accuse your country of harboring terrorists, but it is still worth it.:p

You'll need two days off, at least for the first year. Something tells me that morning is gonna come and half of the Aussies are still gonna be high.

I believe Election Day should be a national holiday and should therefore not be on a Tuesday. Major holidays on Tuesdays bite. Either Monday, Wednesday, or Friday are better choices.

That said, I took last Election Day off (November 2004) to watch the election unfold, and frankly, I partially blame myself for Kerry's loss. If i had sucked it up and gone to work that day, I am convinced Kerry would have won and the economy would have been everyone's most important issue.

I blame you to. :)

Actually, I watched Australias election results come in and actually made myself believe there was a chance that the votes could swing back over to Labour even after they conceded... a new low for me...

You could have your elections at the weekend like most European countries?

Boooo! We have our elections on the weekend. I have beer to drink on saturdays. I'll rather just pay the fine for not voting.
