COMMENTARY: Got this out of our local paper, so there's no link. This guy is either one of the luckiest men alive, or headed for a world of trouble. I can't tell which yet! :D

Marine named one of the few, proud and sexy!

Jacksonville - He didn't get a medal to pin on his uniform. But then the people who honored PVT Jake Lybrook probably would like him better without a uniform, anyway.

The 21-year-old Marine is one of American's 50 sexist bachelors, according to Cosmopolitan magazine. His mother, Robin Deinger, nominated Lybrook for the contest at the urging of family members, never thinking he would win.

"He is a good-looking kid, but I don't view him as sexy or hot," she said. "He's a cutie pie to me."

Lybrook had nothing to do with it. He was in training with his unit - Lima Company, 3rd Battaliion, 6th Marines - when his mother learned he had been chosen. Lybrook four out when he was checking phone messages one night while in field training with his unit.

One message said something about winning a contest, but it was drowned out by the noise of his comrades. So he played it on speakerphone.

Big mistake!

"All the guys just started laughing and hooting and hollering," Edinger said. "They made a banner for him and started going around calling him Mr. North Carolina."

"winnders of the annual contest are usually treated to a round of parties and media appearances, but Lybrook was busy with training and, in August, deployment to Iraq. But, before he left, the dark-haired, dimple-chinned leatherneck found time to pose in a plaid shirt for a New York photographer.

The photos in the magazine and on its Website are accompanied by tidbits about the bachelors. Lybrook's includes a quote explaining why he joined the Marines.

"I use to watch news reports on the struggle to defeat terrorism and think that more people should do something," he told the magazine. "I finally thought, why not me?"

He also said he likes women who play hard to get, though he notes that, "It amazes me how women can wax their entire bodies but freak out about seeing a spider."

The magazine provides and email link where the bachelors can be reached. That's presented a bit of a problem for Lybrook, whose unit is fighting insurgents in Western Iraq's Al Anbar province.

Edinger said her sone has gotten 300 emails from women.

"He tells me, 'I don't want to be mean, but we're really busy over here,'" she said. "'I can't answer all these women back, and I don't want to send a chain letter to them.'"

She offered to help him respond.

"He said, 'No way, because some of them are sending pictures,'" she said.

lmao! Good on him.

Finally, someone other than some snobby Hollywood ass, etc. gets the award. Good for him.

It's what we do here in Australia and works a treat.

It wouldn't matter if we liberals paid for every 4th of July parade in the country, and flew every flag in the country...we'd still get called unpatriotic if we dared to oppose an invasion of Canada.

Well, Rush Limbaugh would be spewing the "liberals are unpatriotic" crap in this situation, or any situation for that matter, anyway. The scary thing is he has millions upon millions of dittoheads that deify him as some sort of god, whether they realize it or not.

It’s more of a question as to why they would sign up in the first place than the armed services welcoming them. They don’t care where the bodies come from.

I used to be fairly patriotic, in fact, very patriotic. Then I realized it was all a bunch of fake emotionalist appeal for that the state to manipulate the populace with. The glorification of the military is just a part of that, often accompanying the cult of the flag. I’m not impressed by someone being in the military. In my experience, they tend to be quite ignorant and statist. Not to mention, that a soldier hasn’t died defending my country in about sixty years.

As a matter of fact, part and parcel of a fully functional democracy is an intelligent and outspoken opposition, regardless of what party is in office. Methinks you're being a bit over-reactive.

As a matter of fact, part and parcel of a fully functional democracy is an intelligent and outspoken opposition, regardless of what party is in office. Methinks you're being a bit over-reactive.

Meh. I'm referring specifically to the überrepublicans who are perfectly willing to put party over country, who call us anti-war folk "disloyal" and "treasonous" but at the same time are not willing to put their own @$$e$ on the line to support the FREEDOM that they talk so much about by enlisting to fight in Vietraq (or is it Iraqnam?) to "defend freedom." Almost all of them are draft age and in good health, too, so they really have no excuse if they support the war so much.

While you don't subscribe to such extreme beliefs (thank goodness!:D), there are a good many chickenhawk dittoheads around here that I have to deal with on a daily basis.

I'm just being honest, and I'm sure there are myriads of beautiful black people out there - I've seen many with my own eyes. Unfortunately, Rotovia- is not one of them, and even if he were, the attributes associated with the racial profile fail to arouse me. It seems my libido is racist.
