DREAD - Possible or Not?

I have heard debate, and a lot saying that DREAD guns are not possible at all, at least today. Now, since an enemy of mine uses DREAD and war with him is immenint, I want to know the truth, if it can work, and if it can't, and some evidence towards both cases.

So, lets get debating.

To my understanding, just the sheer spinning alone would cause so much friction to burn the entire mechanism, turn it out of control, or even cause it to just blow from the massive spinning out of control.

Let that be the debate starter.

and what is a dread gun

Pretty much a gun that spins a metal ball around and around and when it reaches a certain speed shoots it out like a sling shot.

I was thinking that it was a weapon that uses dread to psychologically paralyze the foe. I have to wonder what the point of this weapon is, though. Wouldn't an ordinary gun work just as well as some special device that slings the shot?

If not, better?

Go to a military site and type in DREAD< few have heard of it because the creator is supposibly a Canadian that has been in a mental institution, although he worked for, supposibly (not proven) Heckler and Koch (Spel?).

Yeah...I doubt it would work period. A video is given on some site I have seen that shows it being very accurate and has a high rps, like 34, which I see as impossible. I think the video is a fake, since it is fuzzy.

that sounds kind of useless when we have all these modern weapons

I'd say it woud be right on par with taking a crossbow into a fight.

But the DREAD is better because it is more expensive and it has a cool name.
Anyone can design weapons that work in a normal fashion, the US must have weapons that fail in a dynamic fashion.

I hope you guys know it isn't a slingshot, it kind of acts like one. It spins its barrel around and then opens up to shoot. I mean, I still don't see it actually be feasible at all so...yeah.

OOOOH! I have one. UBERtech LAUNCHaV2.1*... It would invlove a weapon that flashes red and blue lights and require 70,000 volts to charge. It would then stretch a rubber band loaded into a needlessly complicated clip. Which would launch the rubber band at around .02 mph at any stationary target withing a 3foot range.

*LAUNCHa is a kick ass acronym that has been picked more for the fact it looks like Launcher, then anything else.

Well, I'd imagine the key advantage of the DREAD system, not that it IS an advantage, would be to accelerate larger projectiles without the recoil associated with chemical fire. after all, it is not an instantaneous force, but one exerted over a time.

That said, bigger bullets is pointless until a regular man can shrug off the normal ones. and I don't notice my skin getting tougher.

EDIT: this post brought to you by Jordaxia, using siths pc.

We know. The point is, it's redundent. The time and energey that would need to be expending to reach an equal or less attravtive goal then a convential weapon is to great to even consider it.

While that might work, the problem is that you would then have to stand there hold your rotating gun while other people shoot at you with regular weapons.
Long experience at losing FPSs has taught me that weapons with long warm up times to fire are generally a bad idea.

Were you planning on buying one for yourself? Or have we at NS just influenced the mind of a prominent General somewhere?
If you are a General looking for advice, then I think that Portugal poses an immediate threat to all of the world and needs to be destroyed forthwith.

lol, I am just looking into the stuff myself, that and I RP on the II a bit and my newest enemy uses DREADs in about every single thing he has, I betcha if it could he'd have it on a tank.

Even more embarrassing is would be getting stabbed by the guy who just walks up to you while you wait for that thing to charge up. :D
