Cartoons and other fav. childhood past times
Ok...Enough spiritual/relgious, political, economic, scienttifc and whatever else debate...Let us talk about something more..wholesome...somehting that brings out the best in people(their inner child) Lets talk about our childhood. What cartoons did we like? Games? Toys? and so on...talk about anything related to child hood...I would have a poll on like favorite childhood pastime...but im stupid and don't know how to do a poll...but yeah...Ill start this off with me...I loved Johnny Quest, Scooby(original...not 13 ghosts..ro with scrappy),Flinstones, Jetsons, Smurfs, TaleSpins, Darkwing Duck and some stuff on nickelodean, like rug rats and what not...As for games...i played lots of snes and some regular nes..i was fortunate enough that i even had an arcade game at my house for a while..:D it was the original mario brothers... I played a lot also with action figures...Especially batman toys and ninja turtles..I always used to make little wars bettween the two groups...at one point i even had jurrasic park and ghost busters in that little war :P...I miss being a child...No worries...not like today...I mean i worry about everything today..I miss being able to just do things as a kid....it sucks i can never go back to those days.... oh well :)
Oh i forgot to add wishbone, power rangers(the orignal),ninja turtles, the whole bugs bunny crew or as i like to call them...the saturday morning funnies...ahh the memories
Lets talk about our childhood. What cartoons did we like?
The Raccoons (80's Canadian cartoon) is still my favourite cartoon series. Okay, so it's blatantly part of some liberal media conspiracy, but I just can't resist it. The forest backgrounds were beautifully detailed, amongst other things.

I love The Tick and Earthworm Jim. Those were great cartoons.
For comics, Asterix and Tintin were awesome.
I used to like to read stuff by Roald Dahl...
Hm...I wasn't into any music until I was about 15.
The coolest cartoon evar was Count Duckula.
There. :)
And yeah, sometimes I wish I was a carefree kid again. But I make up for it by acting like one. :D
Oh and another thing...kids today have no clue what real cartoons are...or toys for that matter....i mean they watch like bob the builder...what fun is that? or they watch these other cartoons...ugh....i wish cartoons these days had more class....and the toys...they seem better because they make loud sounds and light up bright...but they don't realize the importance of the old cheap, plastic toys...the gi joes..or the little green army men.. gosh.....:p

Are you currently 19, by any chance? Everyone seems to go through a phase of nostalgia for their childhood at about that age. University students take it even further, with posters of 'Button Moon' and 'Bagpuss' all over the place.

I love that show! I have an instructor at my college who worked as an animator on the show. I also liked Count Duckula (I'm not sure if that's what it's called, but it was an obscure British animated TV show, well, obscure for me because I don't live in the UK), and I was crazy about lego

Most of the time, it seems as though I never really lost "those days." I see a major part of maturity as being able to select the best from each stage of your life and retaining it as a benefit of perspective. Keeping that sense of wonder and imagination from early childhood can be a real trick, but well worth it.
My favorite cartoons were ( and still are! ) Bugs Bunny, Roadrunner, Tom and Jerry, and Popeye. Once in a great while, some station will show them and I try hard to never miss it.
One of my favorite passtimes when I was about eight-twelve was playing with toy soldiers and tanks, etc. Vietnam "cured" me of that one forever, though.
Becoming "mature" is inevitable, becoming "stodgy" is not. Life is to be lived, not endured.

I've always found it amusing that in America it's called Hungry Hungry Hippos (note the extra Hungry). I guess all the jokes based on that are too obvious to bother making, though.
there was a cartoon i used to watch and i can't think what it's called, they were Scottish and lived by Loch Ness and were friends with the Loch Ness Monster
You mean The Family Ness - with the 'thistle whistles'? I have an MP3 of the theme tune to that.
MacToot blows on his bagpipes
While Elspeth and Angus watch those notes go floating across the waves
Ferocious Ness appears at once, and grabs a note or two for lunch
And the whole of the Family Ness is not too far behind
Sporty Ness leaps over him, turns upside down then dives back in,
And the beautiful Lovely Ness shows she's the kissing kind
Eyewit-Ness comes up for air and taking notes without a care,
Then turns with a crash and a bash and a splash - to the Family Ness.
Anyone ever have a teddy ruxpin? i had one and i LOVED it!
I remember the show. When I was four years old I tried to explain it to a teacher (we had to tell them about our favourite cartoons, they would write down what we told them, and then we'd copy it to learn to write), but she couldn't work out how to spell 'Ruxpin'.

Honstly, 90% of the cartoons created in the early 90s are tasteless junk. Rocco's Modern Life, Cat-dog, Ren and Stimpy, I am Weasel, Cow and Chicken, I R Babboon, etc.
Those were the days when Fox Saturdays didn't suck and ABC had some cool stuff on as well and some channel had Weird Al's tv show.
Who can forget The Tick, TMNT, (original) X-Men, Spiderman, Spiderman: Unlimited, Godzilla, The Real Ghostbuster, the next version of the Ghostbusters that was "edgy" (the last two wern't on FOX), and that one show on ABC made by I think the same person who did Home Movies on CN. Then there were all the old school cartoons on Cartoon Network: Smurfs, Snorks, Hong Kong Phooey, Mortal Kombat number of versions of Scooby Doo, that race thing. Which reminds me, we didn't have cable or didn't get the channel anyway but there was also Street Sharks, some show about superhero Mummies and others.
And we have large number of toys from when I was a kid because we wer ebroke and couldn't afford anew video game every other week (like my brothers get). I had all but a couple of the Earthworm Jim line (there was only like 8 toys in the whole line anyway), massive, massive amounts of TMNT toys including the pimp vehicles and hide outs (the Technodrome, Sewers, Turtle Blimp, Turtle Van, Pizza Shooter, and the Tank, Fighter Jet and Submarine from the Army Turtles line and even the 11" Krang body).

The '90s was when cartoons actually started getting good again. Ren And Stimpy will always hold a warm place in my heart because it was the first cartoon I can remember that I couldn't watch while eating. Most of the 80's cartoons were 30 minute toy ads. My favorites will always be Buggs Bunny/Roadrunner, and Tom & Jerry, because of the innocence of graphic violence associated with them.

Ah yes, so many years ago.
Cartoons? Easy: X-Men, Spiderman, Sonic the Hedgehog (the dark, moody one), Doug, Ren & Stimpy (up until it turned to crap), and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were my favorites.
TV Shows: Seinfeld (it's always been my favorite), Frasier, and various Nickelodeon shows (Salute Your Shorts; Guts, even if it was just for the enjoyment of watching uncoordinated older kids doing really, really bad; Pete & Pete, being one of my all-time favorites). Plenty of people thought it was strange that a 5-year-old watched Seinfeld more than they did, and my Kindergarten teacher was a Frasier fanatic.
Toys: I collected miniature cars... Hotwheels and Matchbox, mostly. I liked Matchbox ones more because the wheels were better, and they were a lot lighter (Hotwheels cars always seemed too heavy).
Games: Super Mario Bros., Sonic the Hedgehog, The Legend of Zelda (mostly the second one), and Street Fighter II. Oh, how I loved Street Fighter II... I spent hours on the machine at a beach club my dad went to a lot. I dunno how much money I wasted on it. I know it was a lot, though.
There was that stuff, but I still liked doing random stuff with friends more than that. To me, a day at the beach was more fun than playing games and watching cartoons.

Cartoons and other fav. childhood past times
What's funny about this thread title is that I read it as "Cartoons and other labor saving devices".
Now that's comedy!
Anyway ... I never watched cartoons as a kid ... I watched Mr. Rogers and the Great Space Coaster, Little House on the Prairie, and some odd shows in prime time, like Greatest American Hero and M*A*S*H.
Now you know why I'm so messed up.

i used to love he-man and she-ra, and bosco i was a bosco fan up until the age of 8!!
What else can i remember...
the turtle, as previously mentioned by everyone!
tom and jerry
little house on the prairy
i also watched the bill, for some reason...
and had an almighty fascination with the muppets!! recently bought a hugh muppets poster and its on the wall in my room - class :) :)
I loved Trumpton :)
....... and Lego! (why didn't I didn't end up a construction worker after all the Lego I played with as a kid?)
I guess the only real difference is, that back then I could only see the shows when the TV showed them, so I guess they became more important not to miss, but now I could just go to the shops and buy them on DVD. (If I had the inclination!?? )
lol.

Count Duckula, hell yeah!
