The Homeless Conundrum

I can't speak for other countries but here in the Great White North it's getting very cold once more. This season change leads to the annual debate of what to do about the homeless. I'm all for more affordable housing. That will help the people who are down on their luck, lost a job, fell through the cracks, etc. But what do we do about the rest of the homeless? I'm talking about those who do not want housing or don't want to go to shelters. The people who want to stay on the streets and risk freezing to death. Many of these people have fallen through the other cracks of society - they are mentally ill and either don't have or refuse to take their medication. I say until a more solid solution is found we sweep these people off the streets and force them to take their meds. This may seem harsh but if you don't like it I don't want to hear you jump on the bandwagon and begin wailing about the problem when the next person, and there will be a next, freezes to death in our streets. Throwing money at the problem is not going to help it because we keep doing the same things that haven't worked in the past. Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is pure insanity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

real easy way to solve it;get rid of money, the harder you work, the more of the common production you get. if you don't work at all you get nothing in return.
and for the people who don't want to go in somewhere: the smart ones would walk out to a forest and build a small shelter and hunt game and collect wild food. since they aren't doing that, they aren't that smart. they should really make survival training be universally required...

Here they run ads on tv telling you "If you see a homeless person call 911 and an officer will pick him/her up and take em to a shelter." quite easy

We could have a solution just south of the US and Canada. MEXICO! Yes the land of warmth and cheap livin. Lets all pitch in and move em to mexico. Enjoy the sun and fun and cheap livin in our southren neighbor. Heck we could even issue government phamplets on how to live there and avoid mexican authorities. I figure there are plenty of empty haciendas because of everyone flooding northward out of mexico. Lets just do an even one to one trade off. I will take one immigrant hard working farm hand. Mexico can have one homeless person. Sounds good to me. Any supporters?!;)

You have my support, but my country isn't at risk form this plan.

Solution: Have them arrested for loitering and allowed to work jobs while serving a prison sentence?

The problem with giving homeless people an actual house is the inevitable sale of it that will follow. Though there are, indeed, some homeless people who are on the streets due entirely to circumstance, many are there because they have already given in to a vice that cannot be cured by posession of property. Make them work for their dough, then make them see how their work is better put to use on things that can help them make more, easier.

I'm guessing you're talking about drug addiction in the main. Well, employment isn't going to solve that.

England is just to cold and rainy to ship them there. Would be a hard sell. So Mexico is the obvious choice or perhaps....... France?

Yeah, but if nobody claims him in a couple of weeks they put him to sleep.

There wouldn't be a homeless problem if you quit having all these laws to protect them! We need to increase the hunting season, so that the local red necks can become one with their fellow man in the best way possible, spattering their grey matter across the pavement.

I know if I was a homeless person I'd rather live in Mexico.
