New GAO report clearly shows that electronic voting sucks

Examples of Voting System Vulnerabilities and Problems

* Cast ballots, ballot definition files, and audit logs could be
modified.
* Supervisor functions were protected with weak or easily guessed
passwords.
* Systems had easily picked locks and power switches that were exposed
and unprotected.
* Local jurisdictions misconfigured their electronic voting systems,
leading to election day problems.
* Voting systems experienced operational failures during elections.
* Vendors installed uncertified electronic voting systems.

What this means is that a fairly simple person could easily manipulate results without special equipment.

This is not conspiracy theory. This is not proof that such vote loss/switching did occur. What this is is proof, from the government itself, that electronic voting machines, as configured as they were then and now, are egregiously open to tampering and malfeasance by a small group of people (as opposed to a widespread conspiracy being required.)

This is not a partisan issue. This is not to protect one "side" or another. This is incompetence, intentional or not.

I tried to whip up some witty response, but I was busy trying to remember when the last time was that our Government actually listened to GAO reports.

Well, the report is long, detailed and dry. It includes no explosions, stained dresses or courtroom drama. Therefore only a select few give a shit.

It's easy for the government to lead and mislead people, as long as they do it in a boring way.

Step 1 in cleaning up government: Give the GAO some teeth.
