So...have your opinions about certain posters changed? Who did you once think you disliked, that after further interaction you have realised you actually quite get along with? Share your stories! And keep it nice, so Melkor or another Mod doesn't bitch slap me for flame-baiting or something!

I haven't had any like that, but I've certainly had a few in the opposite direction. I won't name any names.

I've got no problem with anyone except Tactical Grace. I've never really had a problem with any of the other posters. I might argue with Ffc2, but I think his anti-evolution posts are funny. I might think Oceandrive is biased as hell, but his posts make for good arguments.

I've had quite a few that have gone the other way, but I don't think that should be mentioned since that could be considered flamebait. In general, those people probably know who they are.

Disagree with, yeah, but not dislike.

I agree there. My strong dislikes ought to know who they are and why. If not, I'll send them more TGs. Hang on a minute... :D (;))

Initially I thought that Lunatic Goofballs was just another internet ape, some pastie dude who was always big talk, trying to turn his buddies into his "Jackass" cronies innapropriately. But, he actually was making me laugh. Then I got to know a little bit about the cat and I honestly respect him a great deal. And feel kinda bad that I thought he was a paste eater. (not that I would put eating paste past him, but it's not the same thing...)

Okay, here are some of my bad poster interactions gone good:

Drunk Commies: when I first 'met' him, he was spamming my (rather inflammatory now that I think of it) thread with dead baby jokes. But then I realised that I have a lot in common with him in terms of fundamental beliefs, and the differences we DO have are communicated respectfully. And he just has a 'cool' feel to him. DC is one of my favourite posters now!

Fass: oh Fass, how I loathed your linguistic lectures! Prickly, prickly is how I thought of you, until we finally had a blow-out and threatened to ignore one another forever! I am very glad we didn't. Fass is a very open, caring person who really deeply has a commitment to human rights, and I value his insight and humour. Plus, there is always the hope that I will be the 'right' woman to convert him.... (KIDDING!)

I'll admit that I didn't actually notice Fass until not long ago.

I mean, he's been around for quite a while -and has a buttload of posts-, but I have zero memory of him prior to recently. Weird.

Carnivorous Lickers: who so virulently gets his back up when I make the slightest anti-American comment...it wasn't until we commenced witht the f*ck talk that we realised we aren't really all that different in beliefs...and that most of the crap we say (politically) is not completely serious. Yes. Isn't that considered royalty? I rule over everything, and all other members of the "royalty" are subordinate to me, so I think of them as nobility.

Whispering Legs/Sierra: yeah, boy did you ever strike me first as an all-American asshole...but you've really changed some of my ideas about certain issues...and helped me realise that I CAN be friends with right-wing gun nuts:).

Occidio Multus: I wish she hadn't gotten banned again (and apparently given up on NS)...when I first interacted her it was on a racial slur thread she started, and I assumed for some reason that she was a white guy (HAH!). And we went at it like cats and dogs for a while after that too...she hated my long, ranting posts, and I hated her snarky, insulting posts. Any thread with me, and Carn is going to turn nasty...just accept it and move on!

I think it boils down to this...I've been able to accept that certain posters have beliefs I don't necessarily agree with, but I'm able to look past that and interact with them on other levels just fine. I don't need to 'show them the truth', and as long as they reciprocate by not trying to convert me, we're fine. NS has actually taught me a lot of tolerance for differing ideas...despite having believed I was tolerant enough.

Melkor Unchained: I think I first noticed him in a debate on banning smoking, and I thought he was just one who went for the juglar and screw an argument to really back it up...but now I realise that he's just edgy, and actually does think things out. That and he's just the hot mod...I can't help but like him:)

And then I was startled - shocked almost ;) - to read a few posts in which he made intelligent, open-minded, progressive-thinking points that I thoroughly agreed with. I was confused for a while, and then I simply began to see him in a schizophrenic way. :p In any case, I now have quite a bit of respect for him, as a person.

I can even recall when Fass first started on the forum. I've always liked Fass and recently having talked to him and another friend over Skype (voice chat) I have even more respect for him. He's a very well rounded and smart lad. Then again I'm a dinosaur around here who still remains quite active. So I notice new people more so than people who have only been here a short while or a year or so. I remember the old forums before we moved to Jolt, I was still a mod back then. The only one I can think of off the top of my head is The Cat-Tribe. The first time I remember noticing him, we were at each other's throats over what I can look back at now and realize was mostly a misunderstanding of what was being said. CTOAN - The first time I really remember him we had a major misunderstanding. He got past it rather quickly... I think... and for that deserves a lot of respect. He didn't cling to it and keeps the discussion on current topics.

I ego search the forums and find myself mentioned tonnes of times in this thread. Thanks for the nice things those who said nice things said. The rest, well, thank you anyway, because it strengthens my resolve.

I, on the other hand, have no nice things to say as I still dislike all the people I've disliked. I'm a pretty good judge of character in the sense that I don't dislike people immediately, but when I get to the point of doing it, I'm almost always correct in doing so. Sure, I had a few skirmishes with Eutrusca and Sinuhue and a few others, but I never disliked them. No, my dislike and disdain are reserved for a select group of people on this board and my sentiments towards them remain steadfast, as I am right in my aversion to their sickening opinions and/or actions. Sounds about right.

hmm sorry to be egocentric for a moment (when am i not ;)) but i can't decide on something: the fact i'm not mentioned here at all either means
a) people don't, and never really have, disliked me
or b) nobody adores me now :(

i'll let you guess which one i'd rather believe :D
B?

Personally, I think most people like you. It's kind of difficult to dislike you for some reason. I'm not sure why exactly, it is almost as weird and hard to understand as my becoming popular.

uh...excuse me...if anyone here remembers me...I'll throw in a couple of cents worth.

I suffered through some senior moments when I was confusing Fass and Nazz. Guess those sibilant sounds created too much white noise and scrambled my brain cells. Nazz got crosswise of me when he hijacked one of my threads and insisted that my motives for creating the thread were other than what they were. I carried over the hard feelings from this exchange to Fass. Once I straightened out the 2, I realized that Fass is wonderfully witty and a genuinely nice person. (even if he did call me a "busybody".)

The first time I came across Eutrusca I understood the basis for a number of his views as I'm married to someone just like him. (Yeah, there are 2 of them.) I've found that he is a great friend and that we share the same family values. Like my husband, you just have to smack him in the back of the head once in a while and remind him that you're not under his command.

At first I thought Good Thoughts was just on here to push his religion. But, I've found that he uses his spiritual teachings to enhance the conversations he joins. I've learned to step back and take a more gracious view in prickly situations from him.

Tink is a sweetie. I was aware vaguely aware of her, but didn't really pay her much attention, until another poster (an adult who should have known better) on here personally attacked her in a really vicious manner. Naturally, it upset her and I could just imagine how it could ruin NS for her. We TGd about the situation and she bounced right back as her same fluffley self. I really admire her for being able to not let another person's attitude adversely affect her.:fluffle: :fluffle: :fluffle:

I haven't yet mentioned Tink! Not that I ever despised her...I just wrote her off as a spammerific bimbo:). I associated her with the 'mean girls' in high school...the popular bitches, but I realised this was not Tink at all...she's not mean, she's not catty, she's just a shy girl who is able to open up and reveal her true self online, and who the hell could hold that against someone? Don't we all do that to some extent? Anyway, Tink made me realise that sometimes, spammerific chatting is just as important as 'deep political debates'. Some people have said some mean things about her on NS, but I think they just have the wrong impression about her. And how could I NOT adore someone who did this (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v711/sinuhue/tinklovesme.jpg)?

Socialism doesn't work. Very carefully regulated capitalism can work.
W3rd. Yay for mixed economy!

I point to the Sandinavian nations and fart in your general direction.
No nation of Scandinavia is socialist. They all have mixed economies, with the regulation of capitalism that Drunk Commies describes.

Er, not all forms of Socialism are akin to Communism, you know. Sweden is heavily Socialist, though they've kept a Capitalist economy.
No. Socialism is where there is a government but no capitalism. Communism is where there is no government and no capitalism. Sweden fits neither category. Like most of Europe, they have a mixed economy.

I so disliked Eutrusca and disagree with most of his opinions, still do, but I have come to realize that he's actually a half decent human being and while I still tend to disagree with most of what he says, he's not quite the extremist I first thought he was.

me 2. I thought Kervalia was ignoring my email to him, till I relised my hotmail was broken :(
Delator...sorry don't remeber you, course it could be my memory.

Haven't been around long enough to get past my (intense) dislike of some of my fellow posters.

That said, I too got the initial impression that Fass was an ass. Not based on his opinions, but because I initially only saw some pointless hairsplitting.
I've since realized most of his opinions mirror my own, and must admit that he isn't nearly as impulsive as I am, and makes much, much better arguments than I do. Consequently I have quite a bit of respect for him. Besides, I dig people with more brains than me. More interesting that way.
I'm not at all certain he feels the same way though :p

Also, I completely misunderstood what GNI was all about initially. I thought he was an all-American bible-thumper. Imagine that if you can :p
I positively adore him now though.

I never disliked Fiddles, but he deserves honorary mention here, as he actually caused the demise of my old keyboard. If nothing else, I'd be returning to this forum to read his posts. He's positively insane, but in a very, very good way.

Ha ha! This made my day!

It's certainly not EVERY day I get confused for American (much less, ALL-American) or a Bible-thumper. :)

*Sigh* I almost wish I'd disliked you now... just so I could claim some similar change of heart. :D

So...have your opinions about certain posters changed? Who did you once think you disliked, that after further interaction you have realised you actually quite get along with? Share your stories! And keep it nice, so Melkor or another Mod doesn't bitch slap me for flame-baiting or something!

None! N/A
