Anyone else on NS doing this? I think sign-ups finish October 31st, and then it's writing time on November 1st. It'll be my first one.

I would do, but I haven't the time, really. You're also missing a zero from your thread title.:D

Thanks for pointing it out.
Gruenberg

Well, clearly not many people are.

I haven't decided what to write mine about yet; I consider that part of the process, so I'm doing my best to leave it till November to start thinking. I plan on doing 2,000 words a day, at one point in the evening. I can't really write spaced out in heres and theres. It will be challenging, though.

Sounds cool, might be worth a shot.
Gruenberg

Swilatia, what was the point of that? If you don't care, then don't post. Should be fairly obvious.

I seriously doubt that, even if I had a month's worth of free time, I could write 50k words, much less into a coherent (and good) story.

I don't think I'm going to let myself down and lower my self esteem because of my failure to complete it. So I'm not gonna try. :(
Gruenberg
25-10-2005, 21:55
Oh, I know my attempt too will end in humiliating failure. But I thought I may as well give it a bash; as much as anything, it might get my arse in gear to actually write. (Those expecting essays/reviews/RP posts from me should overlook this.)

Damn, that'd be cool. But even if I wasn't busy with school, I probably couldn't managed it. Curse you procrastinating tendencies!

But all the power to the people that go for it, and for those who manage it and end up with something at least somewhat presentable, you rock! :D
Romanore
25-10-2005, 22:15
Yeah, I just did the math. It's 1,666.6 words a day for thirty days. That's roughly four pages. Even on a good writing day I couldn't pull that off. *sigh*

Oh the jealousy within. It rages so.
Gruenberg
25-10-2005, 22:17
Well, it doesn't have to be any good. And mine won't be: I'm an editor, really, and not much of a writer. But I do write quite a bit, so hopefully I can do it. My output in other fields will have to drop off, though: oh, how the world of Zelda fanfiction will miss me.
Hiberniae
25-10-2005, 22:17
That is interesting and possibly entertaining to do but school would keep me from doing it. But a good strategy for this would be to write out the general story line. And then just start adding the inbetween parts. That way you can work on any part of the story and would help reduce writers block...it worked for me on shorter stories of about 12-15 pages.

If I can think of a workable idea in the next couple days, I might do it. I'd probably just make it halfway before giving up and wandering off to eat pine trees again. That is what generally happens when I try serious (by which I mean setting out to accomplish something) writing anyway.

Yes, the good thing is there's still a week's thinking time. I'm going to do my best to put it off until Nov 1st, but I do have some ideas. I think it'll be fun, at any rate.

Heh ... no ... never been able to make the whole 50,000 ... *sigh* ... but this year I have plenty of time on my hands! I'm goin' for the gold! YES!

Years past have given me some great starts on books I've yet to finish, though. :D

Third attempt. First year was a fiasco (<9,000), last year I got to 50,000 due to inflated background explanations and repetitive dialogue and due to having pre-written almost 6,000 words (recycled 2003 attempt).

I also never had as little time as I do this year.

I expect a caffeine addiction would be a good idea to acquire. I don't drink coffee. Perhaps that's the problem.

I'm going to do it, and I think I'll just write about space pirates. You can make anything with space pirates go on forever, especially when you have no plot.

Hmm, i've been contemplating writing a novel-sized story. I'm just not sure i'll have the time to start this until about the 10th, which puts me behind a bit too much. I'd like to, but no sense in signing up for something I can't do.

That would leave you needing to do 2500 words per day (depending on exactly when you start). Very tough, but you may as well give it a shot.

Yeah, what the hell. That'll only take me 2 hours a day. (I've crammed 2000 word essays that require research into 5 hours :p)

EDIT- Okay, i've signed up. Technically I was supposed to start 5 and a half hours ago, but I think i'll leave any brainstorming of ideas until tomorrow...

The sense of a deadline might actually help you stay on course, as opposed to simply wading through and procrastinating.
Whoah, two relevant comments in one hour. I think I'm suffering some sort of mental collapse.

Write about a space university. With alien lesbians. And an evil space amoeba that threatens to swallow it.

It is against my better judgement but I am signing up anyway. I think I can recycle my screen play into a novel. Of course I will have to go with the first draft (before I split it up) where the movie would have been 12 hours long. lol. I had to cut out a lot of really good stuff.:p

I wrote 1764 words on the first day, yesterday was really busy so I only got 473 done but today I should be able to make up for yesterdays words not done and today's word goal too. I scrapped my original idea, and I don't really know what my book is about yet so far I am laying the ground work. :)

Cool. I'm just about keeping on top of my 2,000 a day target (building in redunancies for those days when I'lll get nothing done). Story seems to be writing itself, almost

No. I'm not. I hang out with an apartment of six girls though. And at least five of them are doing it. They wanted my support (meaning they wanted me to do it too). So instead I'm writing a symphony this month.

I was going to write something stupid fun, but then I made the mistake of trying to think of a plot. Now I've got this damned outline which I know I'm not going to follow, and I've got half of my words so far on napkins.

I have no plot, no plan...just a student wandering around getting wet. The only reason I have that is because that's what I did today. But I'm going to do this, damnit, if I have to shit words.

Well, the full title is, 'Duodenum To Starboard: Sailing The Bilious Seas'. I kinda got stuck earlier this year with just two or three days left to recount about a ten-day cruise I took late last winter. I think what with my computer being mostly used for frame-rendering these days I might just have some time to spend writing again.

Well, I know this is a bit of a gravedig, but it's still relevant. At the halfway mark now, in time. Really, really not at the halfway mark in terms of words. Anyone else still hanging in? And if so, anyone close to 25,000 now?
