Minister

I don't know if you remember awhile ago where I professed my belief in God, but I figured that I would inform you all that I am now an ordained minister (happened last week). I, along with another minister, am founding a faith-based HIV Prevention and Care Management agency in the State of Illinois (Already filed the articles of incorporation as a 501(c)(3) organization and the appropriate tax exemption papers). Why I am telling you this, I don't know. Probably for a pat on the back and a good luck, which would be most helpful!

Sometimes when I think about myself I am amazed. At 18 years old, I am on a statewide planning group for HIV/AIDS, work with/for the Illinois Department of Public Health and Illinois Public Health Association, am on the Board of Directors for a transitional housing assistance program, and now an ordained minister. I wonder what my life will be like 5 or 10 years from now.

A washed out rock star with a $1000 a day coke habit?

:D

Nah. Good on you. Being a Liberal Roman Catholic that's all the congradulations you get, and that's only because you're helping with AIDs. :p

Well, being a washed out rock star w/ a $1k a day coke habit isn't a necessarily a bad thing. Might mean I might be able to afford having such a habit! And there are plenty of liberal Roman Catholics (My boyfriend and his entire family and extended family, for example). I myself am a Unitarian Universalist, while my co-founder of the faith-based organization's denomination is United Church of Christ.

EVIL!! EVIL!! Damn religious nuts.:sniper:

Heh, only joking. Actually, it is pretty good, all that stuff you described. Although I don't know if it says very good things about you, or very bad things about the state of Illinois. Whichever, good luck with that.

And in 5 or ten years, you'll probably be wishing you'd had more sex. But I think everyone wishes that.

But, did he say he was Catholic?

Perchance he is a Protestant, and kan marry.

I also could have missed something.

My guess is he'll be fine, my cousin's a priest, and doing quite well. Although the family wouldn't tell anyone that!

(S)He says (s)he's a Unitarian Universalist. No idea if they get to marry.

All I meant was the most people wish they had had more sex.

Much better to contemplate such wisdom in shades.

You are wise far, far beyond your years. There are really only two things we can do in life which lead to true satisfaction: successfully raising a family, and/or making helping others one of the primary focuses of our life. Material goods use up, wear out, rust away and are gone; money is soon gone; but what we do for others will have effects that reverberate down through decades, lifetimes and even eons.

It very much is. What does it even mean? Do they not use science in their preventative and caring work, or what? It's not gonna be all that successful if they don't, and then it will neither be "prevention" nor "care".

By federal law, Faith-based institutions are supposed to be allowed equal footing with community-based programs. That said, they also have the ability to reach where others cannot.

Faith really does play a rather important role in both individual and community life, and because of this can influence social and health behavior. That said, faith-based organizations can reach people in communities, have the ability to understand felt needs and many times can foster community resources and involvement in ways public health cannot. Public health provides the scientific background, funding, and infrastructure that is essential to the success of prevention efforts. It is unfortunate that in many cases, collaborations between faith-based organizations and public health have been underutilized in HIV prevention.

If me and my boyfriend's sex life continues as is, I don't think that I will be wishing that I had more sex! 3 times a day when he's over man (or more)

No, $1000 would still get you more than an eightball of pure stuff. I haven't bought it in a long while, but it would probably get you a quarter ounce at least.
