What is your favorite Monty Python sketch? Mine'd have to be the argument sketch, with the fish licence sketch a close second

I quite like the Dead Parrot.

My parents used the argument sketch to stop me being such a smartarse as a kid so that gets my vote too.

Philosopher Song, Cheese Shop, Four Yorkshiremen (though it wasn't originally Monty Python), Fish Slapping Dance, and, of course, the Dead Parrot.

Probably either the Ministry of Silly Walks or the Spam skit

The mosquito hunt.

"The mosquito is dead. But Hank has to make sure"
*Shoots repeatedly at the ground with machinegun*
"There's nothing more dangerous than a wounded mosquito!"
:p

All their sketches are hilarious, except the one where the population of Britain is turned into skotsmen by Blancmanges from outer space so that the Blancmanges can win Wimbledon. It's actually boring. But otherwise, everything they've created is pure gold.

"The one with the joke that's so funny it kills everyone who hears it so they use it to win World War II" is my favourite. I think that's what the sketch is called.

Not a Python sketch, but one of my favs is the "Vegetarian Big Game Hunter" from Michael Nesbitt's "Elephant Parts". He uses a big rifle to shoot Cabbages in the Grocery while wearing Safari gear.

That's the Funniest Joke in the World...fairly sure that's the title.

EDIT: no, it's not - it's called 'The Joke That Kills People (Used to Great Military Effect Against the Enemy at Ardennes on 8th July 1944)'

What's funny is that the German version of the "joke" that they show in that sketch is an ACTUAL joke told by Heidegger about Hitler.

The "my dog's got no nose" joke.

Hitler was not amused, and Heidegger fell out of favor.

1. "Nudge Nudge" - "So your wife likes photographs, ey? Photographs... He asks him knowgingly..."
2. "Bruce's Philosphers" - "What you're name 's not Bruce? Well, can we call you Bruce anyway to waylay any confusion?"
3. "Arguement" - "Hey, I came here for an arguement!" - "No you didn't!"
4. "Fish License" - "Are all your pets named Eric?"
5. "Michael Angelo" - "I might not know much about art! But, I know what I like!"
6. "Cheese Shop" - "Do you have any cheese in your cheese shop?"
7. "Parrot" - "No, he's not dead, he's just pinning for the fjords...."
8. "Hungarian - English Dictionary" - "Drop your pants Sir William, I cannot wait till lunchtime..."
9. "How not to be seen..." - Mrs. Smith, will you stand up please... [shot dead]"
10. "Barber" - "I never wanted to be a Barber anyway... I always wanted to be.... A LUMBERJACK!"

Oh I'm a lumberjack, and I'm ok.
I sleep all night, and I work all day....

I cut down trees, I eat my lunch,
I go to the lavetory.
On Wednesdays I go shopping,
And have buttered scones for tea....

I cut down trees, I skip and jump,
I like to press wildflowers.
I put on women's clothing,
And hang around in bars!

I cut down trees, I wear high-heels,
Suspenders and a bra!
I wish I'd been a girlie,
Just like my deer Papa!

The dead parrot is brilliant, but my personal favourite would have to be the interview with Anne Elk. I swear, I nearly pissed myself laughing at that one.
Michelangelo comes a close second - "What about the apostles? Too Jewish?" - "There's 25 of them ... and 3 Christs!!!"

And after that... almost everything really. The 5 Yorkshirmen, the Spanish inquisition, and the one where the hamster commits suicide (don't know what it's called) "He killed himself *sob I'm going upstairs" - "But you can't go upstairs, dear, it's a bungalow"

"Well, back in my day; we had to get up in the morning, at ten o'clock at night, a half hour before we went to bed. Eat a handfull of cold poison; go to and work in the mill for 14 hours a day... PLUS pay the mill owner permission for working their. And when we'd get home, our mum and dad would kill us, and dance about on our graves singing halelujah!"

I gave my heart to NSU that lovely night in June.
I ache for you my darling, and I hope you get well soon.

My penile warts, your herpes, my syphilitic sores.
Your moenelial infection, how I miss you more and more.
You dobie's itch, my scrumpox, our lovely gonorrhea...

Wow, I can't believe that the sketch where Eric Idle enters that mansion and has a run of really bad luck hasn't even been mentioned yet. I don't know the name of the sketch, but it was funny as hell... Especially the mansion exploding after he quickly runs out. :D

not quite on topic but related...and damn funniest thing I ever saw.....

Peter David wrote a play, performed at a convention, called "Monty Sauron's Flying Nazgul". It was billed as "Lord of the Rings as seen through the fractured lens of Monty Python"

He took a bunch of the MP skits and adapted them to the trilogy. It started with a book store version of "The Cheese Shop" and went (wonderfully) downhill from there: A Fanish Intermission, The Dead Hobbit Skit, The Bright side of Life song (done from the edge of the volcano in the last movie), adapted scenes from Holy Grail. My sides hurt by the end.

It's not my favorite, but since my favorites have pretty much all been covered, I submit the "Confuse a cat" sketch, and the sketch where all the tennis players in the world are turned into pastries.

Oh, and of course, the argument/contradiction sketch

Ok, I'm weird, but I liked "The Undertakers Sketch":

Look, we'll eat your mum. Then, if you feel a bit guilty about it
afterwards, we can dig a grave and you can throw up into it.

Cor! There's a penguin on top of the television.
Well 'owd 'e get there?
How do you know it's a he?
Well, 'e looks fairly butch.
Perhaps he's come from next door.
Next Door!, Next Door! Penguins don't come from next door, they come from the Antartic!
What if it layed an egg and it rolled down the back of the telly? . . .

And now it's time for the Penguin on top of your television set to explode ::BOOM::
Ow'd 'e know that was going to 'appen?
It was an inspired guess.

This might not be exactly right, but it's one of my favorites, along with the other classics like the cheeseshop, dead parrot and Lumberjack song already mentioned.

Oh, yeah, and I loved the "street climbers" as well as "How to use fruit as a weapon" sketch
