There's nothing about a southern accent that sounds ignorant. The words that the speaker selects and pronounces with that accent are what makes the speaker sound ignorant.
If you still think it's still the accent, you need to look around at some of those Maine hillbillies that can't spare an extra word.

Oh, okay then, I'm sorry. I thought that was one of those geographical corrections.....my bad :D
I agree though, on that point. Actually I think a lot of countries (like I mentioned about the US, for example....) are too varied for just one accent to be chosen. Curses. Limited poll options......I'm glad I voted German, because I've never heard a real wide variety of German accents.....

Southern Irish, by the way, the further north you go in Ireland, it seems to get harsher.
Also, East Midlands accents in England...it seems to incorporate the best parts of the northern accents (all the colloquialisms) with the best parts of the southern accents - the softness and kinda rolling quality - without sounding Brummie. No offence to Brummies, I just don't like the accent.

Russian accents
Really great for dramatic effect, when you're discussing conspiratational matters. Its an easy accent to mimick as well, but you can still easily mess it up and sound German instead.
Fags are homosexuals, NOT cigarettes! Let's get it right people!
It's both, all about context :p
"I'm away to smoke a fag" really, really, really relies on context;)

"But, officer, I was just smoking a fag!"
I still can't get over "poofster". That's some weird shit you've told me, man.
"poofter", not "poofster". Get it right. :p

I much rather prefer the shortened "poof."

Yeah, it's more light hearted. "I cried when I saw the titanic" "Aww, ya big poof."

i guess you hate the way we wrestle the crocodiles and have koala bears for pets too.
In defense of myself, I have to latch on to the obvious ones that everyone has heard. Going into the subtelties about what I hate would create a long and dull list, whereas obvious stereotypes can generate a cheap laugh for at least one other person.
Of course, most accents suck (Austrian and English being the exceptions). If you want to mutilate your language, fine with me, but don't expect me to do anything but heap ridicule and disgust upon your tongue and father land.
On the offensive, maybe if you kept a tighter control on the people you let out of the country, you wouldn't have problems with stereotypes.
"No, I'm sorry, sir, but if we let you out this week we'll exceed our stereotype quota for this month. Try being less Australian and maybe it'll work."
"Crikey."
"Now you can never leave."

My grandmother, who's from South Yorkshire, has a lovely accent, it's northern, but nice and soft so it sounds very pleasant to the ear. That's probably my favourite accent.
Unfortunately, I personally am stuck with a weird blend of Received Pronunciation, a very faint Warwickshire twang and a tendency to sound like a south Londoner when I'm very excited. Plus, after years of living abroad, I sound slightly American on the ends of my sentences.
Satisficing

No one's said Chicago yet, eh? That's a shame.. :(
Also, how did New York get on the list? What could possibly be less euphonious than a NY accent? Damn.
I kinda agree with U.S. southern.. kinda.. although there's a huge range among that group.. you can't really compare the Carolinas to Georgia or Louisiana.. but some of them are okay.
Also like the Ålander accent, its great.
Well, your name suggests that you could just talk to yourself to listen to that particular accent!
I rather like the Irish accent and some Norwegian dialects are quite entertaining. Danes shouldn't be allowed to speak, or at very least, they ought to spit out the porridge that's stuck in their throat first ;)

Seconded. Seconded so many times it's just plain silly.
Bosnian dialect is very nice, my maths teacher is from Bosnia. It sounds pretty cool, I think.

Which is interesting, because the Aussie & Kiwi accent are quite similar in many ways.

Yes, I will have to go along with popular opinion (of page 9, anyway), and say that the South African accent is the 'coolest.'
Especially when practiced by an apparently English cricket commentator.

Actually that is true. For some reason, when I start to speak I find many women completely engaged with my style of speech.
However, it doesn't really last long once they figure out that it's really the way I talk and I'm not faking it just to flirt.

Actually, it's snag, but otherwise your accent is perfect. Are you sure you're not an Aussie pretending to be a Kiwi? :p
