Before I begin, I'd like to thank the driector of Neon Genesis Evangelion for brining these failures to light in last night's ep on AS:
1) The UN is militarily weak against enemy forces
-its tanks and helicopters (CLEARLY MARKED 'UN') stood no chance against the Angel (okay, so Eva-01 is about to kick some Angel ass, but remember that NERV and all that it has/will done "doesn't exist," so they don't count :D). Not even a nuclear mine could take it down! Which leads me on to my next point....
2) The UN supports nuclear proliferation
-For an organization devoted to preserving peace, WHY the hell would you detonate a freaking nuclear mine?!
3) The UN has devolved into a dictatorship
-Observe that the only three leaders were military generals. Who, might I add, "have regard for human life - not even their own" (Strangelove :D). E.G: Coercing a young boy into piloting complex military hardware against his will, mistreatment of their own soldiers (about to force Rei to pilot, albeit her poor health).
While I'm ranting, I might as well bring up my hate of NERV
4) Generally, any covert government organization will do more harm than good. Not to mention they're holding all the guns (and EVAs). Leading me to point five:

-Okay, so what happens if we defeat the Angels (I admit I haven't seen the entire series yet), but the UN remains the tyrannical dictatorship that it is? Instead of the Angels doing us in, it'll be the UN (unless of course we can stage a revolution)
