Bambi: Wanted for Murder!
Another Reason to hunt Deer...
California Man Dies After Deer Attack
RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. - A man died after being attacked by a 6-foot-tall deer that he encountered in his back yard, officials said.
Ron Dudek stumbled onto the deer Sept. 25 when he went outside to pick tomatoes. The buck struck him in the face, ripping a hole in his cheek and ramming an antler into his mouth.
Dudek, the 73-year-old president of an electric company, died Monday of his injuries. The Medical Examiners Office said an autopsy revealed that the deer's blow caused a blood clot that went to his lungs and killed him.
"This was a startled deer that tried to get out any way it can and ended up hooking the victim," said Steve Martarano, a spokesman for the state Department of Fish and Game.
U.S. Department of Agriculture personnel located two bucks matching the description of the one that injured Dudek Wednesday night and shot them both. The San Diego County Veterinarian's office was testing the carcasses to determine whether the animals were diseased. The results were pending Thursday.
Some neighbors said the buck that gored Dudek had become increasingly bold in recent weeks. While other deer run when people approach, this one stood his ground, they said.
Dudek's widow, Joanne, said she and her husband of 54 years never feed the deer that came into their yard, which offers a panoramic view of a river canyon about 17 miles northwest of San Diego.
"He was my life," she said, looking out on the canyon.
The attack on Dudek was the third violent deer encounter reported in California during the last four weeks, Martarano said.
On Sept. 29, a deer pinned a man against his house and bit a chunk out of his wife's arm in Mendocino County in Northern California.
On Oct. 11, a deer killed one dog and attacked three others in Orinda, near Oakland.
But deer attacks are rare nationwide, said Larry Hawkins, a legislative and public affairs officer for the U.S. Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.
A deer killed a 5-year-old boy in 1977 at Yosemite National Park, he said.

If the deer population becomes to high due to lack of hunting and they are facing starvation, they will become more agressive.

If humans don't hunt them they won't have a healthy fear of us either.

Goes to show that my theory that deer are evil animals is correct. I wonder if that means people should stop making laws to protect deer?

Arrest the Deer! Bring him to justice :p
But anyway, animals attack people, people attack animals (latter, happens more often) what's the news? Ofcrouse, it's still tragic.

So, it's better we kill two animals than let a frightened animal that defended itself live? And how do you DESCRIBE A BUCK? Please, inform me, 'cause I can see no frekkin' difference.
And why don't we do that with people?
"Witness said "It was a white guy, with kinda light-dark hair, around twenty or thirty." The police found tens of millions, and are preparing to put them all in jail. Also, they fear the man might have left the country and will ask all other countries to keep an eye out for him."
Better to be entirely sure than to possible miss, aint it?

A human life is more valuable than all the deer in the world. I wouldn't mind seeing every species of deer on earth go extinct if it would save one average human.

The sad thing is, the guy could've defended himself easily if he weren't so old or knew how... deer aren't exactly dangerous animals. Like goats, they act like they can defend themselves, but really it's all for show.. unlike sheep, their necks don't align with their spines, so they're pretty easy to neutralize with your hands, if you're not elderly or very small.. Their only real attack is to come down at you with hooves, but they have no accuracy doing that, so you just take a step back.. deer aren't even half as dangerous as dogs.

Well very true. However an unsuspecting human can be got with a lucky shot of the hoof. Sounds like a fluke to me. What a way to go.

That's true.. it's amazing how many people are afraid of animals based on their bark (or size), when they're actually harmless.. it's kinda like my dogs.. it always amazes me that anyone could be scared of them based on the bark, since they're so weak otherwise.. coincidentally, my largest dog is afraid of goats, while my chihuahua will just sit there while a 130-lb goat smashes its hooves into the ground in front of her, trying to act big. It's pretty funny.

I have no response to that. My mind just crashed.

The size and weight of the deer alone make them dangerous enough. If he knocks you down on the ground he can practice his hooves accuracy until it gets bored, and there's nothing you could do against that. Plus their horns (or whatever you call it in proper English) have a chance of inflicting a nasty wound.

I think we should breed more rednecks to counter-act this deer menace.
Just as long as we don't start running them over too.

Some days you get the deer, and some days the deer gets you. :D
Seriously, though, even though I don't hunt myself, I think this is a prime example of why we need hunters. We've eliminated all of the natural predators of deer except for ourselves. As a result, deer populations have exploded. They're a major cause of traffic accidents where I live.
There are only two ways to bring the deer population back down to a controlled number. One of these ways is to reintroduce their natural predators: wolves and mountain lions. Needless to say, in urban areas, this is not going to happen. The other way is to be predators ourselves - in other words, hunt them. So the guys who like to spend their weekends hunting deer are doing the community a service, as far as I'm concerned.

According to PETA, hunters CAUSE deer overpopulation and are therefore directly responsible for incidents like this and car accidents.
Of course they also think that children should play w/ feral rats.
Some days you get the deer, and some days the deer gets you. :D :p
The final score for the 1994/1995 winter within the CITY LIMITS of Anchorage Alaska was (IIRC) Moose 2, Game Wardens 4, and one "Tie" where the Moose kicked a car to death in the driveway of a home.
I have deer in my back yard in Indiana. If a buck is aggressive enough to do THIS (http://www.pineridgearchery.com/movies/inthefield/buck_attack.wmv) (wmv) - rather than run away - then imagine what it would do to a human.
