I think he's selling out the economic future of his country to buy the votes of the people and will leave Venezuela destitute for generations to come.

I am from Venezuela, myself, and I can tell you first hand, Chávez is nowhere NEAR "OK". I agree with him in many, MANY things (probably because I am Left-wing), but I definitedly don't agree with his hypocresies, waste of resources, corruption, or the methods he uses to acomplish his goals. He has good ideas about wealth distribution, it IS unnacceptable that about 70-75% of the country is poor, 23-28% is "middle-class" and the remaining 3 percent is filthy, FILTHY rich. It has been so for about 200 yearsm and it's time we did something about it. In my opinion, as I tell the people I know all the time is, Chávez is EXACTLY what Venezuela needed, someone to give the country a good kick in the pants, re-politize it and make us able to fight for something. He already did that, now it's time to get him out, lest we want to become a cubanized puppet state of Castro.
So I do not vote in your poll, I don't love him, I don't hate him, and it's definitedly not indiferent...

I'm not entirely certain whether or not he actually cares or if he's just after power and popularity.

i think he's kind of a throw back to the third world nationalist leaders of the 60s and 70s... not necessarily the latin american ones, more like the middle eastern, african and south asian ones. modernizing strong men with strong nationalist orientation and moderately socialist social policies, and an inclination toward democratic rhetoric and autocratic action.

I don't hate him, but I dislike him. Therefore I didn't vote in the poll.

alrighty. as i say, i havent particularly looked into chavez, but some of the stuff he did that i had heard about sounded ok, which is why i havent voted in it either. perhaps i should have worded it "for the better" "for the worse" "dont know" or something.

I like his policies and ideals, but he seems to be a bit of a jerk in the way he propagandises things - so no vote.

He's nationalized foreign owned businesses, which drives away foreing investment capital that pays lots of money into the economy in the long run. He's driven the rich and middle class overseas, and they've taken much of their money and expertise with them. He's bribed the poor with rapid social welfare changes. Granted social welfare was needed there, but he's proceeding too fast and is in effect eating the seed corn so his people will be fat today and starving tomorrow.
