The above is a list of things I did not do in this thread. Instead, I made a derogatory remark about this thread, namely that it is glorifying war and nationalistic dickwaving. Two things I vehemently disagree with.

But so is posting pictures of graphic death and injury. I know if I were killed I wouldn't want myself photographed and paraded on the internet in that state. It's demeaning, no matter what the intentions. And the photos are sickening, physically sickening. Plus I'd wager 1000$ US that the link is against the rules of this site.

El wrongo, you are building a counterargument based on the pictures, and the revulsion and fear that most people will feel in response. ARF-COM posits, guns are cool, and you in reponse posit that, guns are t3h suck.

Wrong again. If I think that a weapon looks nifty, I don't automatically intend to use it. I've got a claymore in my room at home, but I am not about to go William Wallace and run around whacking people to bits while wearing a kilt.
Finally, in showing the image you leave off how the person got there. If someone runs out of a building shooting at me, it is perfectly natural that I should do all in my power to put them down. What things look like afterward hardly matters.

Further, I fail to see how you can claim moral superiority, after all, they were only stating the "truth." In fact, the above linky is superior in caliber to Leos. The above shows innocent people falling to their doom, but doesn't seem gratuitous in the gore (maybe it was, I just skimmed it, so whatever).

I appreciate the thread, for one. It's interesting to see some photos of the war, and some of them were really incredible (the one with the bird's eye view of Falluja, for example). Sometimes it seems like there's a media blackout of the war, and if you want pictures you have to wade through people's blogs, which are mostly crap or at least unprofessional. So thanks for compiling a few good quality ones.

Also, I think it's notable that the other anti-war site that was posted is an attempt to manipulate photos to a political end.. some of the captions were pretty lame and unconvincing especially. However, I don't remember the original poster in this thread making any political declaration based on the photos themselves..that's a distinction that's clear to me, at least.

I'm with Kroisistan on this one. Dunno if I'd go so far as to call it nationalist dickwaving, but that's a whole bundle of photos right there that were taken by embedded journalists or Stars and Stripes reporters and picked specifically because they've got big tanks and lots of guns and American soldiers looking totally hardcore, and a convenient total and utter _lack_ of anything disturbing that normally comes with war, like dead civilians, blown up buildings that are recognisable as family homes, wounded marines and GIs, or gibbed enemy corpses. It's part of a tradition as old as military photography of making army life look cool and exciting by focusing on the boys and their toys and conveniently glossing over all the unpleasant consequences of war. I mean hell, if I was trying to get new recruits or putting a positive spin on things for the press, these are pics that I'd be trying to get as many people as possible to see.

There were no pictures of Iraqis being shot or blown up unless you count the picture of a cobra helicopter firing a missile. So if someone posted pics of US troops being shot or blown up he'd not only be in violation of forum rules for posting explicit images, he'd also be an overreacting dickhead.
