De Facto Approval of Torture

Second Amendment

Well, if MI5 says that it's useful information, and they say they don't inquire too closely into how the information was obtained, we can now say that the UK accepts information from tortured (or allegedly tortured) people.

Not really much of a change from the days of battling the IRA, I guess.

But this means that the UK is assenting to any mistreatment of US detainees if done in the name of interrogation.

The head of MI5 has submitted evidence to the House of Lords indicating that her agents are prepared to act on intelligence obtained under torture in the fight against terrorism.

In a seven-page statement to the law lords, Eliza Manningham-Buller said experience showed that material received from foreign authorities as a result of what she called "detainee reporting" had "proved to be very valuable in disrupting terrorist activity".

Terrorists and their supporters are trained to claim that terrorist prisoners are being tortured. They have never proven an allegation. If they prove an allegation, then one can talk, until then one can do nothing but regard it as hogwash.

You can say that. I can say that. The doctor who examined a recent "alleged torture victim" can say that.

The judge in the case I'm talking about even told the "victim" (actually, "The Accused") to remove his shirt and show his back - which displayed absolutely no marks, scars, or bruises to support his allegation. So even the judge says that.

But you'll never convince people like Stephistan. In her mind, there's an Islamic insurgent roasting on a spit over a fire made of pig fat in every US military encampment.
