I'm going to have to go with Predator. Every action movie I've ever seen since Predator hasn't been able to surpass it. It set a standard for quality that not many films since its creation has been able to match. What is your best action movie of all time?

Was "The Bourne Identity" an action film? I really liked the fight scenes and the chase scene with the mini.

In terms of action movies, I'd say the only one since Predator to match or exceed it in terms of quality was Gladiator.

Which, coincidentally, recieves my vote as best action movie of all time. Especially when Maximus just starts wailing on Commodus with his bare hands. Fuckin' awesome.

Bladerunner. By far. In my opinion, one of the best movies in the entire history of the cinema, and I don't mean just action movies.

The Transporter

Not much of a plot or character development, but definitely lots and lots of fighting. It's more like watching a ballet where people get hurt.

"Way of the Dragon" - Bruce Lee is awesome, plus you see a young Jackie Chan and the final showdown is with Chuck Norris!

"Terminator 2" - Hasta La Vista, Baby

"The Good, The Bad and the Ugly" - If you're going to shoot, shoot. Don't talk.

"Seven Samurai" - Although it seems criminal to put Kurosawa's jaw-dropping film with all the others, I guess it's kind of an action film. It kicks ass.

Starship Troopers. I know it doesnt follow the book well, and the sequel sucked, but the first one was pretty good.

Hmm, but that would be a "Sci-Fi" movie....

I'll have to go with Predator, I guess.

Seconded, I actually liked the movie quiet a bit, and the Bourne movies. In Supremacy, when he blows up the house via magazine/toaster relations.. Awesome.. just awesome.

The Bond movie?
Yes. The Bond movie. It's the best Bond film, IMO - and I generally prefer Bond films over other action films. So that makes 'You Only Live Twice' the best action film of all time - IMO.

If you want to do best animated action, there are plenty of those.
There is Knockin' on Heaven's Door (aka The Cowboy Bebop movie), which involves a large explosion or two, and the usual Spike beating the crap out of something in the usual Jackie Chain meets Bruce Lee style.

Then there is the Evangelion movie, which starts with the guy gutting half an army.

Then there is the Evangelion movie, which starts with the guy gutting half an army. Neon Genesis is one of my favourite things ever, but what the heck are you talking about?

"Death and Rebirth" is merely a summation of the previous television series with a few cool extra shots.

"The End of Evangelion" involves SEELE's take-over of NERV, followed by Asuka kicking ass followed by Shinji enacting the Ascention, then rejecting the depersonalised, faceless world of the LCL. I don't recall any guy gutting an army.

Another who thinks 'You Only Live Twice' is the best Bond movie! I'm not alone! *Cries with joy*

Best action movie is too hard to pick. Some of them have an amazing plot (LOTR), others have great fightscenes (Bruce Lee-movies), others have amazing huge battles (Starship Troopers), while others are just so bad you can't help but wonder if it's actually a comedy (Totacl Recall).

It's just too hard, I think.

I guess Transporter 2 was even better in that respect.
