Can you feel it??

The electricity fills the air...

...the greatest day of the whole year is fast approaching.

Of course, I'm talking about HALLOWEEN!!! :D

What are your plans?

Having a costume party?
Going trick-or-treating? (aren't you a little old for that? :p )
Walking through graveyards?
Camping deep in some creepy forest?
Going to a haunted house in your area?

Regardless of your plans...let me be a bit early and wish everyone a...

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

Every year, I put on the ghillie suit, camo up the face and hands, and find a place to hide in the front yard - not behind a bush or tree - but in the open.

I regularly scare the crap out of children and adults alike - 99 percent of whom have no idea I'm there until I reach out for them.

Oh...you're no fun.

Anyway. I'm going to a friend's house for a party. We'll be watching horror movies and playing Resident Evil. I'll be going as this guy.

Nice! I did something similar a few years ago, but we had an unusually low amount of trick-or-treaters that year, so it wasn't as fun as I had hoped.

Cool! Horror movie marathons are always sweet...especially when you get the really cheesy ones (like Sleepaway Camp II :p )

I'm EXTREMELY depressed, because Halloween is one of my most favorite holidays, but I'm broke, and in a strange town with no friends around.

I'm actually considering just doing nothing, something I've never done, and something that just makes me feel like my soul is rotting.:(
Heres me last year.

Mmmrff. Not really that psyched, to be honest. I'd rather not go to Hell! (http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/0058/0058_01.asp) ;)

Nah, the Uni'll explode in silly costume fever, and everyone'll dress up and get drunk. This city has such a ridiculously high proportion of students (about 1 in 9 people who live here attend the University) that trick-or-treating kids anywhere within the city or suburbs will end up knocking on the doors of drunken house parties. And getting totally wankered doesn't really do anything for me. So meh.

Is this seriously only a tradition in the U.S.?? I figured somewhere else did this too. :(

It's pretty big. The kids love it (what kid doesn't like an excuse to act crazy and get free candy?!? :) )

And then, of course, there is the dedicated core of older people, like myself, who are just kids at heart, and view this as the one day of the year where we can be as crazy as we like and not attract police attention...at least not often. :p

That's a good idea, but some of them carry eggs to throw at the houses of people who aren't forthcoming with treats.

A handful of kids try to go trick or treating in the UK. But unlike trick or treaters in America, they have no power here. We can quite happily ignore them with no reprisals.

Which is a good thing. The holiday makes me cringe. I just get drunk, which is the same as usual, actually...

Sadly, it is around here. Lots of annoying trick-or-treaters :(

I need some way to wreak swift and terrible vengeance upon them for disturbing my evening... Sadly, whilst hacking their heads off and sticking them on a pike (as a warning to others) would be in the spirit of the thing, I believe it's frowned upon. (Anyone know why?)

Maybe we'll just release the hound, and find some noxious/toxic sweeties for the persistent ones...

In the U.S., it is the established rule that if the porch light isn't on, they aren't giving out candy.

Trying to give bad candy to the kids is a great way to get yourself locked up over here.

Several years ago, some guy put razor blades in some of the candy he handed out. Don't ask me how they tracked him down, but they did, and charged him with attempted murder.

I believe he pled down to a lesser charge, but I know he spent time behind bars.

Actually Halloween is a fairly big tradition in scotland.
We don't have trick or treat, we have giusing (as in disguising) where you have to actually let the kinds into your house and they they are required to sing or tell some jokes before they get anything.

The reason you have to actually let them is that the 31st of october isn't exactly known for its wonderful warm weather.

Oh and there are 2 very fun Halloween games: Dookin for apples (fill a abig basin with water and apples and either stick your head in to get them with your teeth or kneel on a chain above above the basin hodling a fork in your teeth and try to dop it and hit an apple) and donut eating (hang donuts from a string and try to eat them with no hands...).

Well seeing as i am generally against Halloween as my Mother belived it was a silly American thing(No offence intended to Americans(for once)) we didnt partake in the silly antics of the occasion of going about knocking on peoples doors asking for Razor Blades in Apples or Cyanide Drops.

Our way was to Water Bomb any of the pesky little shits that came a knocking.:)

However if i was asked and could be arsed going to a Halloween Party this year i'd go as a Smurf.

No idea. But then, people are illogical like that. I think it has something to do with the fact that blood and gore tends to disgust people, although why that is I'll never understand. Personally, I love a good, violent orgy of blood, but surprisingly few people share my interests.

I personally enjoy Halloween carolling. It's fun, especially since I do it in a college town. Need to figure out what I'm going as, but I'm doing it again for the 3rd year in a row even though I've graduated. Frat row loves us. Well, except for some of the wasted people, but most people like us (probably because they're too drunk to tell how bad our singing is).

We sing variations of Christmas carols, so instead of Silent Night we sing Spooky Night:

Spooky Night, Halloween Night,
All is cold, nothing’s right.
Round yon pumpkin glowing away.
People singing in the doorway.
Sing in devilish glee-ee.
Singing in devilish glee.

There's 16 of them in all (including a variation on Jingle Bells called Trick Or Treat).
