Every other weekend, I work at the dorm cafeteria. My "Section Supervisor" is black. And she turns the radio to the local hip-hop station. So, I'm forced to endure 8 hours of endless hop-hop every other Sunday. During my torture, I noticed something.
The hip-hop station plays the same dozen songs continuously. They play nothing new! Even worse!

I don't mind hip-hop in general, but stations that play the same few songs over and over are just lame.:(
just complain about it or get a decent stereo and blast her with whatever you listen to

Are you sure it really is just a dozen? It is probably 3-dozen, with three of them running into each other and mergining into one miasma of pain.
On the other hand, the right sort of hip-hop can be funny, but then I belong to that bizarre minority that periodically watches BET just to giggle at how stupid and cliche the rap videos can get.
Ah, them black peoples are funny!
PS: Yes, the last line was very tactless, I am sorry. I'm not going to do a damn thing about it, because it amuses me to play at White Guy Stereotype #32, but I am sorry nonetheless.

Listen to www.rrr.org.au
Not a pirate radio station. Has no playlist whatsoever. Each presenter plays whatever the hell he or she feels like. Granted there can be some weird stuff, but you won't hear the sames songs endlessly repeated & I garantee you'll hear some great music.

I stick to Triple J Australia, which you can also listen to over the net.
That being said, I think Hip-Hop is a very interesting form of music, although you generally have to stay away from the commercial stuff (as with all music...)

You could go down to the local radio station with a few armed thugs and smash their brains out - but that probalblyl wouldn't be very good for the environment.
Or you could sue them for being retards.

It's 8:44 PM right now, and there's nothing on TV...
And to start a thread, you go to the "General" List of threads, and in the top left, you'll find a button called "Post".
Be careful not to make spelling errors in your title though...you can't change it after you post.
If you want to add a poll, there's an option in the very bottom.

My basic belief is that Rap is the coolest music ever, but it is currently populated by some of the dumbest, most ignorant people possible.
I would LOVE rap if it actually had any message except " Yo, I shot me a cop, and then I smacked my bitch because she dun stole my crack. Check out ma million dollar watch, BITCH!"

So does every other radio station you get on the FM waveband.
The worst part is the hip-hop stations don't even play the good stuff. They play the crap that is a disgrace to rap and hip hop and is made by little punks getting too much money from Sony or something.
You should bring your own music and ask her to put it on. I would recommend anything Run-DMC or Jurassic 5 if you want even a remote shot at not listening to Pretty Ricky or Ying Yang Twins or whoever the hell is on this week.

Only all other "format programmed" FM radio stations. Public radio stations largely use block programming (like TV stations). And classical music stations (often public radio, too) usually use their format programming to encompass a very, very vast library (meaning they probably won't be replaying a piece too frequently).

Shhh...your stumbling on the greater truth that most hip hop music is the same generic beat over and over. I honestly can't tell the difference inbetween songs. But if you want to gain some vengeance do what I used to do when I pulled up to a car blasting rap. Play classical. The looks you get are some of the funniest things in the world. Outside of this, I'd recommend you look into a website called www.audioscrobbler.com or i think its last.fm now...but just search for it as audioscrobbler and it can open up a whole new world of music.

Oh yes that one universal rap culture- like that shared by public enemy/ dead prez (political message) or cypress hill (doing drugs) or ludacris (being an overpaid dickhead who treats women like shit).
My suspicion is that you see rap culture as being the last example.

Yes, In my opinion, there is one mainstream rap culture, at least in America. One that promotes violence, disrespect of women, and drug abuse. I do not like it.

It may be mainstream but not all rap's like that. Seriously, just look into Jurassic 5, Public Enemy, Dead Prez, KRS One, Run DMC, etc etc.
Just because currently mainstream rap is all about how much money you make, how many women you have sex with, how many people you claim to have shit, whatever, it doesn't make all rap like that

Run from Run-DMC is currently solo on some kind of crazy, born-again Run rap game under the name Rev. Run.

I see you own a radio and not a CD or mp3 player.
Side note: Apparently Run's new album is on Winamp music.. in its entirety. I would suggest everyone with a problem go check it out. It is obviously not as good as Run-DMC which has masterful back and forths between Run and DMC as well as Jay's mixes, but it is better than the crap on the radio.

Run's solo album, in entirety. It obviously isn't Run-DMC, but is far above any of the crap you will catch on any FM hip-hop station.
Rap has devolved from being upbeat and fun to becoming this bizarre mixture of violence, stupidity, and materialism.
Listen to some old stuff. No cursing. No killin' "niggaz". No fly rims. No 'hos and bitches.
I think this newer kind of rap hurts race relations. It's almost a minstrel show where others might look and say "Look at that crap. All they want to do is steal stuff and shoot my kids." There definitely aren't enough voices in the black community trying to fight this imagery.

Not only does it hurt race relations but it disgraces the whole genre and gives it a bad name.
It is very hard to find people who don't like rap because they don't like rap as opposed to those who don't like the lyrics or message or morons making money from it.

Exactly. It's so hard to find a rap song now where I can listen to it and not have to shut it off because it's about [insert messed up action]. I take lyrics pretty personally and even if a song sounds great, if I can't identify with the words, I won't listen.

If you havn't heard Run's new album, I gave a link to it. Apparently Winamp has melded with the devil, who has the rights to let people listen to a lowered bitrate version of it free. The whole CD is there, but it isn't even half an hour long.
"Just follow the money"
Few people seem to understand that a rapper in the ghetto doesn't just rise up from his own bootstraps to have a multi-million dollar record label.
It takes a producer...picking who to invest in...controlling the show...
If you're pissed that the thug has a microphone, blame those who gave it to him.
