Does anyone know of a place where I can get some general interest college style courses for free? Encarta use to have something like this but that was years ago. Thanks for any help.

pick a topic you like, go to the library, get books on it and read. Reading is the way.

I'm sure if you dig around enough on the internet you'll find something that is reliable... sure...after getting through all the ads and bullshit.

Generally articles on history, etc. cite sources which are reliable, though.

But yeah, Monkeypimp is right. Reading. And lots of it.

But the challenge lies in being able to discern bullshit from fact.

Books are a better bet, despite my earlier mocking.
