"Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff (search) promised Tuesday to end the "catch and release" policy that has allowed tens of thousands of non-Mexican illegal aliens to disappear within the United States."

Good. It looks like we are going to start deporting them. What do you think?

Non-Mexican illegals should be treated the same as Mexican illegals.

Not that I necessarily support deportation -- just equal treatment.

Sounds good, but it's not going to put even a tiny dent in illegal immigration or secure the borders. If you want to do that, you need to skull-fuck companies that hire illegals and exploit them for cheap labor because they don't dare complain.

Right on. Hiring an illegal alien is illegal, right? Let's start putting some of the employers in jail and fining the shit out of major corporations that hire them. I'm talking about fines around 5 million per illegal. Hey Walmart, still want to hire illegal aliens to clean your floors?

Naturally an illegal immigrant from, say, Lebanon or Saudi Arabia should be treated with more suspicion than a Mexican.. if anyone deserves a spot on the deportation bus, it's those from countries whose governments want to destroy ours. I doubt President Fox sends us too many spies or saboteurs.. :p

Nazz, I agree but what the hell is "skull fucking?" I think a fine of $25,000.00 per illegal alien might put a dent in their bottom line.

Nothing personal, but that's a pretty fucking ignorant way to look at it. First of all, it's not like the Mexican illegals are being sent by Fox--they're coming because there are US companies who will hire them, knowing they're illegal. Hell, Tyson got busted flying them into their own private airport in Arkansas about 5 years ago.

Secondly, you think that al Qaeda (as opposed to the government of Lebanon  ) is trying to get people in the country illegally? If they're trying to hit us, then they're sending people in legally, so they don't raise alarm bells at the border. The 9/11 hijackers came in legally, remember--some overstayed their visas, but they got in legally.

No President Fox doesn't but the issus isn't just terrorists. There are many n0n-Mixican illegals that enter the US through Mexico because they know nothing will be done.

I'm not interested in putting a dent in the bottom line--that's been tried with EPA violations in the past and companies just started treating it as the cost of doing business. I'm interested in making an example of a company or two, letting everyone know that if they violate the law and get busted, they'll be lucky to get something out of the liquidation sale.

$25,000 per illegal is nothing. If a major corporation like Tyson or Walmart, who've been found hiring illegals in the past, gets busted with 100 illegals it only means they lose a measly two and a half million. Hardly a drop in the bucket compared to what they're worth. It makes it a risk worth taking. If they stand to lose 500,000,000 for the same number of illegals then they won't take the chance.

Why not throw the CEO's and store managers of places that hire illegal aliens in the can for 5 years as well as force them to pay major fines?

And yeah, why are non-mexican aliens treated differently from mexican ones?

OK, so we need to start prosecuting those companies and people that hire illegals, and insure the law has stiff penalties. Correct? Sounds reasonable to me.

We can load the Mexicans in a van, truck, or bus and drive them back to Mexico. People from other countries have to be given hearings before they can be deported. When these people cross the border, they actually look for INS and state they are OTM (other than Mexican.) INS then gives them a ticket to appear in court and tells them to have a nice day. Very few ever show up in court.

Some countries lock them up pending the hearing. Why don't we?

I don't know but that would be a good question for your Congressman or Senator. I would guess it has to do with $$$.

Did anyone else immediately think of going fishing and releasing your catch?

P.S. Deport the bastards.

I don't remember saying Fox was sending illegals... doing nothing to control the border, yes, but sending them, no. The Mexican economy does depend on the money sent back to Mexico from U.S. immigrant workers, however, and it's in President Fox's best interest that our economy stays strong and our borders stay open, as compared to Iran or SA, who have no vested interest in our border policies with Mexico, but who spout violent claims, and whose populations are largely sympathetic to militant groups..

If anyone's planning an attack, it won't be Mexico.. but it may be a middle-east-based organization.. treating Mexicans and Iranians the same doesn't make sense from a Security standpoint. Some terrorists will try and use our borders to enter illegally, and some have already, even if others don't and didn't. But Mexicans don't generally come North for purposes of mass murder, and the one needle in the haystack that may, won't be from Mexico.. that's a bet I'd make any day.

Pepe, the problem isn't just terrorists it is also illegal immigration and that is very much supported by the Mexican government.

Yes, but the original post asked whether non-Mexicans should be deported, in particular.. so my reply went in that direction. The article on the subject, on the other hand, doesn't make the distinction, I don't think. Certainly there's a problem with an excess of immigrants, OTM or otherwise.

I think it's just lip service, but I hope I'm wrong. What happens to illegals whose home country doesn't want them back? We just stack them in jail?

And yea, I thought of when the Delayed Harvest restrictions are relaxed so I can keep more fish.
