Best hangover cure?

No, I don't need one right now, but I just talked to a friend about it... do you know any good and reliable hangover cures?

My mom has one that is artrocious. Drinking a glass of warm salt water. Either it makes you throw up (it usually does) and you will feel better afterwards, or else the salt will stabilise your system and with one or two more glasses of regular water, you'll feel fine again as well.
The problem with this cure is, you have to be really REALLY feeling sick to even consider trying it...

Hangovers are caused by dehydration of the brain. Just drink water. Before you go to sleep is probably best.

Well. If abstinence is out of the question.

I suppose the obvious answer of "Don't get shitfaced" is out?
Then, as Uber said, you should be sure to drink plenty of water before going to bed, or even alternate between whatever booze you are partaking of and water. Reduces dehydration and reduces the amount you drink.

Eating a lemon might help. Then again it might not, but you'll still have lemony fresh vomit.

Wouldn't water also dilute the alcohol in your stomach?

best cure as far i as i know is (and it works):-

1 pt of water befor you fall asleep (do i need to explain why?)
1 pt of water when you wake up with a packet of Cheese and onion Crisps (the water i dont need to explain the Crisps well that puts back all the salt thats missing from your body after your good old day out. Its one reason why you fill shi**y)

Taking those anti-hangover pills (I forget what they're called) that were designed by the KGB actually helps. However, if it's already too late, then this trick always worked for me:

Go to Awful Waffle. Order two plain waffles, and some corned-beef hash. Spread CBH on one waffle, cover with the other, and eat it like a sandwich. Everyone will look at you funny, but you'll feel better.

I think by the time you have the hangover, the alcohol has long left your stomache. From what I know, "hangover" describes the symptoms of poisoning when the alcohol is being processed by the body, after the intoxication

I think alcohol does drop your blood sugars, so a little chocolate (or a glass of pop) could help.

I did say to drink the water before going to sleep. Anyway, I'm no expert in hangovers (I do frequently drink water though).

I try to drink two huge glasses of water before bed with three extra strength Tylenol, another big glass of water when I (inevitably) have to take a leak in the middle of the night, and a few more Tylenol with more water in the morning. If I feel like I can manage it, something greasy for breakfast helps to absorb the acid.

That's actually a very bad move. Taking Tylenol with alcohol (or while hungover) can cause severe liver damage.

Lots of water (in the region of 3 or 4 pints) and a good fry up, heavy on the bacon. Works every time, plus fry ups are great.

Gatoraide/Power Aide and a 15-20 minute walk.

The Gatoraide/Power Aide also has the salts the body is lacking, the water it's lacking and an ingrediant that helps water absorbtion (which is hard when you are dehydrated).

As for the walk, I guess it helps increase bloodflow.

I've had both of these recomended to me. A manager friend of mine maintains that chilling out in a cooler also helps.

GATORADE. Lemon. Works the best.
The thing I find that works flawlessly is between beers drink water/gatorate. You look like afreak and have to pee every 10 minutes, but the next morning you feel nothing.
NEVER DRINK COFFEE. Ugh. Bad experience. :(

i think sierra bthp suggested a better way of doing that the other day: eat the salt on its own first and then wash it down with a big glass of normal water. better that than have to drink a whole glass of salt water :S

myself, i used to find a fat spliff in the morning really helped :)
(dunno what i'd do now... probably just suffer it or take those alka seltzer xs tabs)

This is the best cure there is.

Combine it with drinking lots of water before you pass out & lots of water with a vitamin pill, 2 teaspoons of sugar + 3 teaspoons salt, and you'll be cured of even the worst hangover in a matter of minutes. cafeine pills helps as well.

I rarely have access to pure oxygen, but the rest of the stuff is my normal procedure monday mornings.

It's basically unregulated outside of DOT regs because it's compressed. You can lease an E cyinder for under $100. Look in the yellow pages under 'gas supply'.

I think it's a pint of water, a teaspoon salt, and three of sugar. It makes sense, and it works (though I can't vouch for it personally, as I don't get hangovers).

Alright first off...if your still drunk when your going to bed, do not chug water before you go to sleep. It will make you throw up. You can sip on it and get a glass down over like 20-30 minutes... otherwise it's probably best to just wait till the morning. If you got a nasty hangover. Gatorade or something of the like that is designed to rehydrate works and you should probably also have bread or something to stabilise your stomach. Oh yeah and if the headache is too bad, some sort of pain killer after you get the gatorade and bread in ya.

The best hangover cure is to PREVENT hangovers.

Hangovers are due to dehydratation. Alcohol is a dehydrating agent and drinking too much will cause dehydratation, which will cause the hangover nastiness, notably the migraine, which is due to -- get this -- the cells in your brain SHRINKING because they are dehydrated, and the throbbing pain you get each time you move your head is because your reduced-size brain is actually BOUNCING OFF THE WALLS of your skull. Even though hangovers are actually pretty mundane, that still sounds pretty scary to me, so ever since I found out about this I have been adamant about abiding by the following rule:

DRINK WATER IN EQUAL QUANTITIES TO ALCOHOL.

If you drink a glass of wine, drink an equal amount of mineral water. Same thing about beer, etc. If you're going to drink hard liquor, then drink more water. Unless you throw it up, you should be fine.

Now, if you forgot that rule (I know I have) the best thing to do is to -- wait for it -- DRINK WATER. That's water, biting the dog that bit you creates more problems than it solves. One of those problems being alcoholism. Hook yourself up to the garden hose or something and imbibe as much water as you want/can.

Then, have 3mgs of aspirin, which will help with the headache and fluidify your blood, improving circulation. Then, if you can hold it down, have a nice, filling breakfast. Then call in sick for work and watch TV.

The problem with [drinking warm salt water] is, you have to be really REALLY feeling sick to even consider trying it...
The first time I ever drank for real, I was at a party at a friend's house.
Because we (about 14 or something) felt that we were too big for beer, one guy had gone to his older sister's cabinet, found all sorts of spirits and mixed them together. It was about a litre or so, looked dangerously red (not kidding), and smelled like...well like nail polish.

Everyone wisely backed off, except me and my good buddy. And so we finished the bottle in about half an hour.
Then I fell over, spewed all over the garden, and was subsequently greeted with a glass of warm salt water by the host's dad.

Well, I survived, so there you go.

Greasy fry-up works for me. The full English-breakfast works. Eggs, sausages, beans, hash browns. Washed down with lots of ribena and chocolate.

Dope works well for controlling the nausea.

A bit of exercise and lying in the sauna for several hours helps.

If I've been drinking Vodka, wine the next morning seems to work ok.

Best thing to do though is having a vitamin pill and lots of water and juice before going to bed.

The common method used amongst my friends:

when you get home drunk, eat yoghurt and drink a few glasses of water. Put a bottle of water and a bucket next to your bed and start sleeping. When you wake up, start drinking and eat some more yoghurt. Don't forget to have something like 'motilium' around.

whatever you do, do NOT take over the counter drugs like tylenol, ibprofen, or asprin. All of these drugs are already harsh on your system (particularly anything containing acetominophen). Mixing with alcohol can be fatal

I would suggest a gatorade or lots of water and a banana right before you go to sleep, and more gatorade and water in the morning. Also, new england clam chowder or something creamy usually helps me. Or else a bagle or something similarly easy to digest.
