Conservatives: Will You Make Me This Promise?

But we knew that there was going to be an insurgency before the war. And if Iraq DOES end up becoming worse than Hussein, just as reports in the 90's predicted, then how can blame Iraqis?!?!

Because they're terrorists, and terrorists need getting rid of.

Precisely. It can't possibly be Bush's fault (for invading) or the American army (for not being up to the job) so the blame has to fall on the ignorant terrorist sand niggers who don't know what's good for them. Ann Coulter's probably writing an argument saying as much even as we speak...

Heron, look at it this way. When the Nazis took over France during the second world war (you know, the one America saved Europe from single handed) there was a resistance movement who did a lot of damage to the occupying forces, and provided information for the armies who came in to liberate France later. Until some evidence emerges that Americans would show the same backbone if their country was occupied by hostile forces, leave off the French.

I blame everyone,
Liberals for undermining the anti-war movement with their hysteria and being generally pussy,
Neo-cons for invading in the first place,
Conservatives for going along with the neo-cons,
France, Russia and Germany for undermining the anti-war movement by opposing the war for obvious self-serving reasons,
Iraqis for being generally backward,
Britain, both for sending troops and the undermining of the anti-war movement (see liberals),
Nationalist Republicrats for maintaining an army large enough to unilaterally invade a nation halfway across the world, even after the end of the Cold War
The average American, for not caring at all

What is with people listening to me lately. Jeez, guys.

Anyway, single handedly saved us from the Nazi's did you? Right, well, there's a few old spitfire pilots and SEVERAL MILLION DEAD RUSSIANS who want a word with you, shitmunch.

And I'm not american , so I'll lay into the French as much as I like. And the French are welcome to lay into my country as much as they want, too. Welcome to Europe, jackass. History is calling you.

Given the poor troop levels in Afghanistan and to a lesser extent Iraq, it's plainly obvious that the US Military isn't nearly large enough.

Nobody is to stone anybody until I blow this whistle — even, and I want to make this absolutely clear, even if they do say, "Jehovah."
Anyway, I believe that you are black as night, and twice as likely to be filled with voices.

On the topic at hand, I will blame the people of Iraq if it ends up worse then before. Saddam wasn't immortal and he made the classical mistake of having more than one heir to the throne, so most likely he would have offed it in a decade or two, and then there would more than likely have been a civil war.
Let me also add on to that, that people are responsible for their government. You can't lead if no one follows, no matter how bad ass your army.

Why do Americans get excited about "wiping them off the map". You can't do that. There will always be people left. There are not enough troops in Afghanistan. If there were, the government's control over the country would be more than tenuous.

I could wipe several countries off the map. Provided that by "the map" you mean my atlas, because I don't think that I have enough white-out for the literal country.

The word you’re looking for is apprehensive, but I guess the confusion is bound to occur when you take a sentence out of context for whatever petty reason.

*shrugs* Depends. What's your definition of Iraq 'failing'?

Ultimately though, I will partly blame the Iraqi citizens if Iraq fails, more specifically the part that attacks our troops and blows up civilians. A lot can be said about a lot of people, but they are the ones who are actually doing their best and trying their hardest to make Iraq 'fail'.

You know, a while ago I asked three of my conservative friends if they were aware of the number of people that had died in Iraq. All gave estimates between 1,200 - and 2,000: remarkably accurate if I had asked them how many U.S. soldiers had died. However, I asked them how many people had died. Evidently they didn't count the dead Iraqi's as people. Sadly, this about sums up the views of some of the posters here who seem to view all Iraqi's as terrorists and want to "wipe them off the map". Considering that, before we came, there were little if any terrorists in Iraq, I think we can discard this argument on face.

As far as the role of Iraqi civilians in the anti-war movement, I think their only role is inflaming the American public (those of us that do count them as people at least). For a complete count of reported civilian casualties since 2003, refer to
http://www.iraqbodycount.net/. If there are any questions about their credibility, I encourage you to search through their database: after all, that's a lot of people.
