I'm really more of an asparagus man, myself.

And iPods get pwned by the Creative Zen range. pwned. That makes it official.

My Creative MuTuVO FM is playing up ... shutting down all the time even with different batteries. Time to look at a new MP3 player for me. Looking at the Zen too. :)

I had a Creative Zen Touch, worked great until I got drunk and dropped it in the toilet. Now I have a Creative Zen Micro. Controls took a bit of getting used to, but the battery life is quite long, and it's really small.

Zen Micro, will look at that option. A free iPod would be nice too ...

The video iPod thing is just a marketing ploy. The true video iPod of this day and age is the Sony PSP. It doesn't change the fact that the iPod is the best digital music player on the market, but that is what it is: a music player, not a video player. Apple just have to keep adding features to their product because in the electronics business if you don't churn out new things all the time it looks as if you're left behind, even though your product is already the best. In the case of the iPod nano, it was a ballsy move to replace their most successful product by a whole new one, and the nano is a fantastic nifty little thing, so I think that was great, but the video iPod thing has left me quite underwhelmed.

If I want look at DVDs, I have a laptop and a PC. While short video capability would be nice, it's limited to Quicktime videos anyway.

The iPods keep getting worse, lets start buying other mp3 players. Maybe then apple will learn something. I mean, the iPod shuffle is pure crap, and so is the iPod nano.

You know, I thought about this long and hard for a few days myself, and I disagree. I just bought a 60 gig iPod and will ebay my PSP to help pay for it.

The PSP is a sexy piece of hardware, but the games are non-existant (especially compared to my beloved DS). As for media, sure, I can pirate all the video I want on the PSP -- but I'd have to shell out at least 80-100 bucks just for 1 gig of memory. 1 gig is not going to hold very much. So, even though the PSP has a gorgous screen and okay battery life, I decided to go for the new iPod -- I get 60 gigs, tv out, a great way to legally download and an easy way to pirate.

The Nano is just a gimmick item. It is far too expensive for what it is. You can get a 20GB Zen player for the same price as a 4GB Nano.

I've got 3 movies (FF7: AC, Shaun of the Dead, American History X), an entire season of RvB, gamessaves, 5 mp3s, and like 10 images on my PSP with that 1 gig stick.

Though if I got rid of the RvB episodes, I'd have enough space for another movie. Wewt.

And in about 10 days, Grand Theft Auto: LCS is coming out for the PSP. Later this year, SOCOM and Battlefield 2 will be coming out.

Only game I envy the DS for? Xenosaga 1 and 2 coming out eventually. And hell, I'll bet I can soon find THAT to be illegally playable.

I don't want to derail the thread and make it about PSP games, but those games just don't appeal to me...I think they're fantastic console or PC games, but I want something different from handheld systems -- I want something I can quickly boot up and play while waiting for the metro for a few minutes and whatnot. Although I hope they incorporate LCS' multiplayer into the next console GTAs!

I don't understand how NINTENDOGS appeal to anyone over 10.

Actually, I bought my 40GB Zen for less than the going rate for an iPod Nano.

I'm just pointing out that if you're looking for a portable video player, the PSP is the best alternative. However, if you're looking for a portable music player, the iPod is the best.

People have often repeated that the iPod is the Walkman of the 21st century and Sony have been beating themselves up over the head with buckets ever since Apple came out with the iPod for missing the digital music "revolution". Their attempts to come out with iPod-like products have failed, and people have been saying they've lost that market, but they haven't watched closely enough -- their answer to the iPod isn't a music player, it's actually the PSP.

As for the quality of iPods in general, first of all price vs storage isn't the only criterion. IPods are small, light, robust, easy to use and yes, damn sexy. Creative and Archos players are not (or are less). An exception to that rule was the mini and still is the Shuffle, which are both pathetic products. The nano and most of all the original, big, white iPods are simply great, and each new version has simply improved. Which is why I posted in the first place, explaining that the new improvement, video, was a pointless gimmick and thus dissapointed me.

the new iPod is music to your eyes
That's one of the most stupid phrases I've ever read.

I hate everything iPod related. It looks dull, its controls are unfriendly to me (no, you're not a genius for using a wheel) and it's overrated. I hate the very concept of the iPod shuffle.

The mp3 players from Creative and iRiver are much better.

I noticed Apple's original iPod came in just ... White. The newer ones come in Black and ... white. I hope this isn't the way Apple sees the world.
