"Don't put words in the Bible's mouth."

Someone said this on another forum. I laughed. Then I Googled for it. And this isn't an isolated case (http://www.google.com/search?q=%22words%20in%20the%20bible's%20mouth%22). Frankly, I am disturbed.

Now... Discuss.

Something to do with the average hardback's lack of orifices, I presume.

The average hardback can grow a lot more orifices if you get your words wrong. "Klaatu verata... nic*coughcough*."

Well, it's just the misuse of a common figure of speech.

I've never heard Reggie (Infidel Guy) say that.

As in book, I presume. As in the only book I've seen with a mouth was that one in Harry Potter, therefore it would be incredibly difficult for a bible to have a mouth.

As opposed to a paperback book. ;)I didn't even know "hardback" was a word until now...It's always been either "hardcover" or "paperback" in my experience. :\

I'm not sure exactly what's wrong with that statement; it certainly could be worded a bit better but it makes a fine point if it was called for. Certainly there is nothing to discuss here.

While it might not call for mentioning in whatever thread it turned up in, it is interesting to think about what would happen if a book had a mouth. That seems to be the main purpose of this thread.

I dont recall any bible as ever being made with a mouth, and I dont think that most sects of Christianity would like it. It seems like it might constitute idolatry or something...

I think the term most often applied in this case is "hardbound," not "hardback." :p

wait, wait, wait.

You can't introduce another term!

We already have hardcover and hardback!

But seriously... how many terms for it do we need?
