Don't you think Yankees fans who rub the World Seriesseses in Bosox fans' faces are assholes? I mean, what are they supposed to do, switch sides and root for New York? Isn't gloating a bad thing?

I think it all depends on the context. You can't argue which team is better through the ages without bringing up the large amount of championships won by the Yankees and the ages between championships of the Red Sox. Of course Yankee fans will bring up the championships when deffending their team just as much as the rest of the league brings up the Yankees' payrole.
On the other hand, if it a random "fan mugging" where a Yankees fan sees someone in a Red Sox cap and yells, "Time to wait another 86 years," or "4 down, 22 to go" are being pricks.
There is nothing wrong with a heated arguement as long as both sides agree it's for fun.
