Don't ban me for posting this, please, but I've noticed something on the General Forum:

There is something seriously wrong when people just go all out and not discuss things with good taste towards said subject. I mean, religion and lifestyles are the number one things that cause flame-fests. To me, seeing all this is like seeing everyone punching each others lights out.

Yes I know you have to stay away from things that you really shouldn't get involved with, such as poor conversations or personal beliefs in something, but whenever one little comment comes up there just HAPPENS to occur a flame or other thing.

Whats going on here? I mean, this is getting rediculus....you can't even literally get involved with ANYTHING anymore on said subjects. If you want to talk about Religion, rarely do you get a clear-cut version of a discussion. If you want to talk about lifestyle choices/lifestyles, rarely do you EVER get a clear-cut conversation. I mean, it goes both ways.

Look, I know I'm spiritual and the like, but I understand one thing: *Everyone's human, no matter what they do*

I mean, just give me one REASON why you can't just go into something, and not TALK? Why? Why? Tell me please, because lately, and in the past months and the like, I have had to REFRAIN myself from posting here too often. Its just too much. I mean, sure, there's the occasional subject I disagree with, and I don't post, but surely something of Spirituality or lifestyles CAN be discussed without even the most minute trace of flamming or trolling?

You guy's are the ones discussing everything, its like the Senate or Parliment here. If you people just punch each others lights out, nothing gets done!

I mean, its bad enough fearing to post a thread because of someone coming in and messin it up. General Forum's not what it's used to be, and why in the heck can't we just get something that won't TURN into a flame-fest in here? I understand the disagreement and hatred part, I do. But surely there is something that can be discussed seriously.

I'm not directing this towards everyone, only towards the people whom experienced such and have done such. My main question is: Why?

It's strange, I seem to find reasonable discussion all the time. I can name off a slew of reasonable posters.

I wonder how two people can post on the same forum yet come to completely different conclusions.

You really don't understand what conversation is, do you? It's about conflict. Argument is the lifeblood of human interaction, the more violent the better. In this thread you are making just as much of a disputable point as anyone who has ever posted anywhere. If we couldn't get pissed off at eachother, how would we enjoy the forum? You mentioned lifestyle choices: our lifestyle choice is conflict. We're not looking for a friendly conversation, we're looking for a debate, and frankly that's just as legitamate a desire.

Considering the vast majority of posters are not reasonable, I'm inclined to agree with Anagonia.

there are those who only come onto forums like this in order to upset people. its a fact of net life that we all have to deal with

besides its fall, flames keep us warm.

But, after all...why do we debate? To talk about a subject. Why does it turn into a flamefest? Because people get touchy about subjects. And why do they do this? Because they're human.

Thats not hard at all. Its the doing it to someone who's a great distance away from you that is the tricky part.

Hey you don't have to be overtly hostile! Just start a thread saying something like "God is dead" and give your reasons for your belief. Certainly this would get a lively discussion and you don't have to start flaming if you're careful.

The OP seems to be intending with that Senate line that debate itself is somehow wrong. That's really what I disagree with. No one has to get personal, but the point of this forum is to argue, often impassionedly. Why else would you have a conversation?
