For those who hadn't seen the original thread, the "rules" were simple. You weren't allowed to nominate the anthem of your own country/ies, and you had to specify what your nationality/ies is/are. Some people didn't follow those rules, and consequently the nominations they put forward were discarded.
As you can see above, four anthems received five nominations or more, meaning they would be listed for the final vote. You can hear instrumental versions of each of those anthems here (below). Please do not vote for the anthem of your own country, if you happen to be Russian, French, Israeli or Canadian.
In alphabetical order:
* Canada (http://www.national-anthems.net/web/find.webpage?from=real&what=canada&id=CA)
* France (http://www.national-anthems.net/web/find.webpage?from=real&what=up_france&id=FR)
* Israel (http://www.national-anthems.net/web/find.webpage?from=real&what=israel&id=IS)
* Russia (http://www.national-anthems.net/web/find.webpage?from=real&what=russian&id=RS)
Please vote for the anthem you find the most beautiful. (And please don't vote politically.)

Why bother "nominating" if a nomination must receive a majority just to be voted on? I mean, duh. The nomination was obviously the vote itself, then. The USSR wins this one, cuz it got the most votes er, nominations.

You have a curious definition of a "majority", and obviously you've never heard of a two-round election.
Not to mention that people could nominate several anthems. But you can only vote for one.

How do you get it to play the anthems?
How do you get it to play the anthems?
It should start playing automatically. If it doesn't, press play. ;)
Unless what you're seeing on your screen is different from what I get on mine?

If it's a two-round election, why bother calling the first votes "nominations" then?
And nowhere did you say that only the four anthems with the most nominations would be voted on. It seems like you just wanted to limit choices unnecessarily.

For all the good a nomination would do... It's only valid if enough others 'nominated' it in the first place.
Maybe my definition of nomination is slightly different from voting, not just that you can nominate several people, but that there is an implication nominating actually puts your candidate up for vote somewhere. Otherwise why nominate at all? Why have two 'elections?' The first one clearly is all that mattered or will matter, and I'm pretty positive the results of this election will show that.
Oh well.

What>? No Italy? Thats just fun..
Ah well.. Going with Isreal.

In the nominations' thread, quite clearly and explicitly, several times. I said that only anthems which had received five or more nominations would go to the final list to be voted on. It was never a matter of it being restricted to the "top four", though.

Yes, it did. In this thread, to be precise. You nominate in the first one. Nominees with sufficient backing are then voted on. Simple enough, no?

:rolleyes: Uhm... Why do we have to be biased against our own country? I mean, it is an unfair requirement, especially if someone thinks it is beautiful... After all, look at the nominations for the Russian one... and yet the Russians aren't allowed to vote on it as being the most beautiful? Yii...
Screw the rules, I'm voting as I want!

There isn't any play button...

Well, I guess I missed that bit.
Had I not, I'm sure I would have created a few puppets to nominate the anthems I liked.

With "sufficient backing." Simple... and removes that nasty minority from getting in the way of an election! It's kind of like having an election in which you can't even have write-ins, and only the two already dominant parties' candidates are up for vote...

I voted for Canada because that anthem makes me cry.
Would've voted for israel, but then I couldn't make that joke. Because that would render me a Nazi. That's bad, by the way

I voted France, because theirs has the most unashamedly violent flavour of patriotism. The unclean blood of foreigners flowing through the streets? Now we're talking! :D
Israel’s is just fucking wow. Never heard it before. I can’t believe that it hasn’t gotten almost every vote. Whatever
The others were pretty too, but I think I’m still content with the fact that the anthem of my country is a 150 year long contest to see who can sing the word “Free” the loudest in the highest pitch.:D

I wish I'd caught the original thread. :(
My favourites are Turkey, Morocco, and Israel.
I think these are all solid choices! Still, I can't believe Russia got so many votes. I blame McCarthy backlashism...
I like the EU's (http://www.national-anthems.net/web/find.webpage?from=real&what=europe&id=EE), but I guessed I couldn't nominate it in the last thread.

Agreed. What’s with the fucking bells?
Music-wise, I like Israel the best with Canada being second.
But Canada's anthem has much better lyrics than Israel's ("we still have hope" vs. "we stand on guard for [Canada]"... I prefer the latter) so I vote Canada.
Russia, of course. Nothing beats it.

It is very kitchy, almost retro chic by now.
The Russian anthem is good, but my favourite Russian song is easily Polyushka Polye. I heard it on Micheal Palin's Full Circle and really loved it.
Check out this Video (http://www.palinstravels.co.uk/popup.php?name=flc_022_a_med)
of the song being sung by the Russian Naval Choir along with Micheal Palin - it's a great tune.

It didn't get a single nomination. The US anthem really is not very good...

It would've, if we could've voted our own in.. I had to vote Poland, my #2... Nothing against Poland, of course. :)

Exactly. It would have gotten, if you had been allowed to vote for your own. Most would have.
Nothing against Poland, of course. :)
At least it wasn't forgotten
