In case you aren't aware of what a Googlebomb is, basically, when Google indexes websites for its searches, it puts the websites that are linked to the most at the top. So, a Googlebomb is when bloggers, hackers, and other people that have no lives, create website after website linking to a certain page that they want to be at the top of the list.

And there are two new Googlebombs:

If you Google for failure, the #1 hit links to President Bush's biography on whitehouse.gov. It's been this way for over a month. In response, Conservatives created a googlebomb of their own, so that the #2 hit links to MichaelMoore.com. But so far, it hasn't been strong enough to beat the link to President Bush.

I could generate a few milion web pages on my server using a combination of php and perl (to update my DNS)

How would that help? I don't really understand the mechanics of Googlebombing.

You generate web pages all interlinked ... that provides "weight" when one page gets entered into google they ALL get entered cause they are linked

With google you get a higher ranking when you are linked on pages that are listed in google

So if they are all interlinked they all get a "ranking" bump because they are linked by so many other pages

If a website is then in thoes links on each page it gets the same boost in ranking to the top of the list

Because ranking (initial) is hard to get ... one has to get established and google does not take registration in the same way as other serch engines

You have to get linked to a heavy traffic site to get a strong enough ranking to get your "foot" in the door

Not to mention issues with geting DNS and such setup

It would be complex to an extent ... and all and all not all that worthwile (plus google probably has filtering ability of some sort ... you know only "so"many websites count for ranking if they are all registered on the same ip ... that sort of thing)

If your confusion is at the Jews comment:

it used to be the case (and still is?) that the first search result for 'Jew' was JewWatch, an anti-Semitic organization. Google eventually caved, and bought - I think the wikipedia definition - in as the first link. Before that, though, there were attempts to Googlebomb it out in similar fashion to this.

If your confusion is not at this, then I really can't help you.

It has been that way for much longer than a month. I think a couple of years, although he seems to have been upgraded - it used to be type in "Miserable Failure". (EDIT: Just checked - "miserable failure" still works)

When the liberals "googlebomb" the president, the conservatives googlebomb a fat movie director. It kind of shows a differing mindset between the two groups.

Yeah.. it shows that the Democrats don't have any kind of national face or consistent record.. Harry Reid tries to keep up, but who's gonna put in the effort to smear Harry Reid..? he's like a lost child on the Senate floor.. I feel pity, not anger, when I hear him speak.. and Pelosi's dazed "deer-in-the-headlights" look only underscores the lack of traction her message usually gets.. so who should Republicans "googlebomb?" There aren't any decent targets. :p

The idea of manipulating Google using automatically generated pages was proposed a long time ago, and after a security researcher pointed out that it could be used for an effectively legal distributed denial of service attack (I'll edit this once I've tracked down the paper), search engines have gone to a lot of effort to detect networks of automatically generated pages. Furthermore, the effect of pagerank on how search engines associated link text with the destination page is unclear.

Glad I read to the end of the thread before posting--I was going to say much the same thing. Google pretty much has a practice now where if they catch you bombing, they remove you from their index completely and you don't show up at all in a search.

Well I was thinking that the liberals are pointing out what they saw as a failure of duty, someone who is doing a poor job in a political position. Meanwhile, conservatives are targeting someone who does not hold a political position, who is merely a celebrity with opposing views.

In the end, I see liberalism as being more of a political ideology, whereas conservatism is more of a political brand or loyalty.
