I mean ... geeze .... no wonder we don't apologize for things like hitting a Japanese fishing boat with a civilian piloted submarine (anyone remember that?) or for torturing folks in prison ...
We have to wait until everyone involved is dead!

Yes because every other country is perfect and the USA is a stain upon the record of humanity. Jeez you think the fact that we freed a hell of a lot of people and stopped a genocide matters against some people stealing others valuables? I guess not.:headbang:

actually we did apologize for the Greenville's collision with the fishing boat. and I believe it was not a civilian that was piloted the sub, but civilians were on board and the captain demonstrated the "emergency surface" procedure.

Actually, no it doesn't matter. Saving a people doesn't mean you own them.
Strange that you'd feel the need to bring up "every other country". It's really very hard for a supposedly Christian nation to look to the mote in their own eye before examining the speck in another's.
That's ok ... I forgive you ... you know not what you do.

Where did I say we owned them? I only said that to look down on the USA because its appoligizing for the actions of past soldiers who stole things during WW2 isn't the best thing you could look down on.

Funny enough I'm not Christian so bringing in Christianity just seems to be you venting your dislike of them rather then actually at me. But in reality my reply was a sort of sarcastic remark to the point that no country is perfect.

Once again I'm not christian so you can save the christian hating for some other time.

You have to admit, stealing gold from holocaust survivors is pretty damn low. It's a few rungs bellow the 9-11 looters.

The incident with the Japanese fishing boat was an accident and as I recall America did apologize for it. Secondly, those who tortured prisoners were or are being prosecuted for it. Third, as stated in the article some of the people involved in this incident were prosecuted and reparations were made. So, what is your problem?
It's really very hard for a supposedly Christian nation to look to the mote in their own eye before examining the speck in another's.
So lemme see if I get it right:
An American soldier stealing some gold from a dead Hungarian Jew: Mote.
Hungaria creating a regime of terror that rules the country until the end of the 1980's : Speck
An American submarine accidentally hitting a Japanese fishing boat: Mote
Japanese having disastrous police procedures where torture is an intricate part: Speck

do a couple of bad people make an entire nation evil? what about all the good we do in the world? can't we ever take a look at the other side of things? allow me to show you some facts about the military:
last year, the brigade of midshipmen:
put in 500 hours to habitat for humanity
gleaned 2000 pounds of fruits and vegetables for the homeless
tutored grade school kids
visited terminally sick kids at childrens' hospitals
also, ongoing operations in iraq and afghanistan started by service men and women provide tens of tousands of pounds of supplies of every imaginable kind to iraqi and afghani civilians every year.
