Almost every battle you fight will be won or lost right between your ears!
What do you think of this statement? My own ideas on it are that it's true. I have seen people lift themselves out of poverty, overcome terrible family situations, remake themselves in almost every aspect of their lives, and overcome even serious physical problems because of their mental state.
Lance Armstrong springs to mind. Here's a guy who had cancer at several places in his body, but who not only overcame it but went on to win the Tour de France ... again!
Is this just "whistling in the dark," or a principle by which we can influence reality?
Where the mind goes the rest follows. No doubt about it.
I believe, an on empirical facts based believe, that when it comes to 'the power of the mind' we haven't even begun exploring our potential.
Almost every battle you fight will be won or lost right between your ears!

I would very much agree with your statement.
My own life has had it's share of trials...trivial things compared to what many people have experienced to be sure, but I've always found that it's my mentality, my own mental drive to overcome whatever obstacle is in front of me, that has allowed me to progress past those bumps in the road.
It's a mind over matter kinda thing. :)
Oops, that sounds like I'm saying that the mind is located between the ears. A notion that I definitely don't support as I'm clueless as to the exact location of the mind, but I took it that the 'between your ears' referred to 'the mind.'

The mind is directly connected to our entire bodies. Anything and everything that any human being can do is locked within the minds of each of us. The entire spectrum of human potential is there. Which talents, strengths and weaknesses we exhibit is based directly on our mind's ability to harness the resources of the body and our ability to train our minds to do so.
All that's left to inhibit us is environment and will.

I don't mean to be cynical, but those are two pretty crucial caveats. And the problem is, the way that one individual chooses to be disinhibited can result directly in the inhibition of others.

That's a very profound statement, but I'd say it would be more accurate as: -
Almost every battle you fight will be lost between your ears!
Simply because with the wrong frame of mind, the battle is lost before it is begun. Even with the winning attitude, the correct thoughts and ideas, the battle can still be lost because of events beyond your control.
I would agree with that statement, but I also would add the caviet that you can over and under think battles. Judge them to be too hard when they are not, or too easy when you should have been cautious.

I'd have to agree with Sun-Tzu and say that if the battle should be won before it starts. If not, you should delay it.

If you don't require the cooperation of anybody else, then this is true.
If you do, then you are doomed and might as well stay in bed.

Wasnt he just charged and convicted of drug taking - and then stripped of his title?

Hehehehe, no. Only a French tabloid story. No judicial accusations. No trial. No convictions. No stripping.

Agreed, every battle should be won before it starts, but if both people want to win, well, it gets a little interesting then, doesn't it?
You can have the desire to win, but you can get out classed. Take Italy vs. Ethiopia for example. C'mon!

But Lance Armstrong cheated.
