How did your first relationship start?

I believed the question summed it up fairly nicely. If you need an example, I'll tell you mine:

It was a dare.
I had to do it as a dare, or pay 5 bucks. I thought she had a boyfriend, so I'm content. Turns out she didn't, and she was willing to go out. I didn't plan for it, and I almost choked up on surprise. It was okay, lasted a few months, nothing special.

I met my first boyfriend at Wal-mart, he was carrying a dead goldfish in a bag. I told him that he should actually get a living fish for a pet and he said that he did, but it died on the way home so he was bringing it back for a refund. I mentioned that if he did actually get a fish from Walmart to survive the car trip home that he should call me with any fish-care questions and gave him my number, we dated for 5 years. (in which time he had about 30 fish, whom all died)

I suspect you need to define what you mean by "relationship." In one way, a relationship is any time you see someone more than once in a lifetime. I don't think that's what you mean though.

I've never had a relationship and will never have one until hell freezes over, Neo Rogolia denies God, and Tink posts something sensible that doesn't turn into spam within 5 minutes.

If I ever do find one, I'll take that back and publicly agree with Serapindal.

There was this chick, and for some reason I was attracted to her. So, I was talking to my friends about how I should ask out that chick, and then, on a friday, one of my friends was all like, "dude, why don't you just do it?" and I was all like, "no way!" and he was all like, "I'll do it for you!" so, then things lead to another, and she wanted to go out. So, anyways, we went to like a party or something, but it wasn't very exciting. A few days later she found out that I had addicently called her flat. :( It was over pretty quickly.

Hmmmmm ok since you asked.

I was after a girl in the dorms. She had a nice looking roomate. Tall girl and funny.

The girl and I danced that line of flirtation but nobody would commit. We finally agreed it was not going to happen as we felt our theme song would have been Highway to Hell. ;)

I hooked up with another girl and and a short torrid romance which ended badly.

One night the roomate went walking by(in the dorm) wearing a chamisole. I asked her if she was cold because her nipples were hard. She was dumbfounded; called me an asshole and stormed off.

A couple months later we went out. We eventually got married and have a 4 year old kid now. :D

As to the original comment of being shocked about a girl not having a boyfriend; let that be a major lesson to you "yunguns" in the dating world.

ALWAYS ask! You would be surprised how many hot women don't have a boyfriend. As one old girlfriend (who was stunning to the point of being way out of my league ;) ) once remarked "Guys look at these (D cups), look at my face and assume I have a guy."

Shocking to belive that she never dated that much as she was the complete package. Beautiful, blond hair, built in all the right places and extreamely intelligent.

Hmmmm that might have been an issue, many guys can't deal with a gal that is way smarter then them.

I don't have that issue. :D

Again guys. Always ask. The worst they can do is say no.

I bet it's because there are alot of geeks with no girlfriends on this forum, who are looking to pick up chicks because they are "hot studs" :p

Personally, I just haven't been in a relationship because I am shy when it comes to girls. I mean, I am very open to my female friends, but when it comes to relationships...ehhh, let's just say I have no skill at all...

My first, and it's still going strong:

It was at a school football game. The other team was leading by a field goal. They kicked the ball off and he ran it back for a touchdown. Our school won, and I was so into it that I ran onto the field after the win and tackled him. I went to Boston Pizza with him w/ the rest of the team.

my first relationship started when the XX (or just X) and the XY got together and BAM, I began to grow.

or my first relationship outside the womb was probably with the doctor who guided me into the world.

in terms of "romantic" relationships, the first I can remember was in first grade. I asked a girl if she'd like to be French-kissed, English-kissed or American-kissed (true story). She said (thankfully) "English" so I just gave her a peck on the lips.

If I'd known then what I know now, I'd have said afterwards, "That was a cracking kiss! Care to shag, baby?"

I wanna talk about my third relationship, since I don't remember how my first started, and the second is really odd.

Anyways, my third girlfriend, my current one, is my best girlfriend. One of my best friends and I were talking to eachother, in Info Tech, about my best friend's sister. She really liked my best friend yet he didn't like her. So he asked me if I would go out with her. Well I accepted it, only cause I want to help a friend and actually really like her. I couldn't ask her out because she's in 8th grade and I'm in 7th, so I had my friend do it for me. But he wasn't able to.
At lunch, me and my best friend, her brother, were talking, and I brought up her sister. And I found out that she had him, her brother, ask me out for her. It's like two people were searching for eachother to ask out, instead of one asking out the other and the other accepted. It was pretty cool that I found out that she wanted to ask me out as I wanted to too.
I had to leave early, so my mom picked me up from lunch, and I had to leave. Thank god I forgot my violin, because I had to go back into the school and get it. So I did, I saw her on my way to the music room, she asked what I said and I said yes.
So that's how it happened! We've been going out since, September 15, 2005 or it was September 22, '05. (I forgot, but it's great going out with her.)

Dude, relationship -> Sex. It's the natural order of things on NS General.
Sex is one of the three most talked about topics on the forum, the other two being politics and religion. Homosexuality and abortion fall under politics, which is #1. Religion is #2. Sex is #3.

I'm not too sure if there are any others...

I've had a multitude of girlfriends over the years. Most of them never amounted to anything, although I did have a girlfriend in 8th grade who was incredibly cute (and even wore glasses! :D ). We met in newspaper club, and we kissed at a mixer. She broke up with me a couple of weeks later. Last I heard of her she was in a local mental institution...

Later I met my current girlfriend online. My friend talked to her and convinced us to meet each other in a "neutral location." We met, had fun that day. I never actually asked her "You want to go out?" because, frankly, if you make out at the end of the day (it being her first time, w00t! :p ) I don't think that formalities are required. That was 10 August 2003.

And I haven't stopped loving her since.

First, first relationship: Late Middle School, went out with some girl who I had obsessed over for about 10 months. I proffessed my eternal and undying love for her, and offered to retreive for her any gift that she chose as proof. She asked me to pass the salt. I swore that I would sooner blind myself than look with longing upon another woman. She asked me if that meant that I liked her more than Susan. I stabbed her to death and buried her in the backyard. She bled and screamed a bit. (Ok, the last part was exaggeration, in reality I just called her a bitch and swore off women, she went on to date some guy on the football team, and I was jealous because I wanted to date some guy on the football team, but none of them were gay).
First Guy Relationship: Decided to piss off my parents by pretending I was gay (And why I decided to that is a long story, mainly involving a friend of mine who was convinced that it was impossible for a straight man to fake gay as well as a gay man could fake straight. Said friend later came out of the closet, and I was surprised, though it should have been obvious).

She cut in line in front of me at the school library and I took exception to that and started to argue with her (Yes, I was and still am a geek). After a few days of snapping at each other, which by that time had turned into a running gag, she asked me to the Sadie Hawkins Dance.

Now my fiancee was introduced to me by a friend at his farewell BBQ. She had been in America for two years and hadn't left Reno and I thought that was really, really sad that of all of America she only got to see Reno. So I volenteered to take her to a few places whenever I went on a trip.

Still took me from July to Feburary to work up the courage to ask her out through (which was on Feburary 15th, NOT the 14th, no matter what she says. :p ).

(To answer for him: Reno is a place. The only things I know about it are:

1. it's the traditional place to get divorced, Vegas being the traditional place to get married;
2. it is featured in songs, including 'Folsom Prison Blues' by Johnny Cash ("I shot a man in Reno/Just to watch him die") and 'All The Way To Reno' by REM ("All the way to Reno/You're gonna be a star"). The latter implies it may have some sort of film/music base.)

I was feeling rather down, my senior year, because I'd gotten rejected by yet another girl. I'd had the most terrible luck up until then, I couldn't ever get a break.

So, on a whim, I asked the nice girl who sat next to me in art class if she wanted to go to a movie sometime next week. I didn't know her very well, we had met just a few weeks earlier on the first day of school, when we had started sitting at that table. She said movies were not her thing. So I went home and spent the weekend feeling depressed, as it was a friday.

On monday, after a very awkward art class, during which I sat as far away as possible (six inches farther than normal, since we couldn't move our chairs very much and still be in our regular seats), she came up to me and told me that she hadn't realized that I was asking her out, since I was fairly vague, and nobody had ever asked her out before. So we wound up watching movies at her house, and a few weeks later, we went to the planetarium (nerdy, I know), and then we were a couple. That was a little more than nine months ago, now.

Well, I know that Reno 911 is a Television series.

That's still on t.v.? I kinda liked it.. The comedy of putting it in Reno is that not much happens in Reno.. Reno's what you get when you take a couple of sub-Vegas casinos and planted them in the middle of a retirement community, with regular busses coming in from Chinatown.. it's like Vegas on Valium. :p

Anyway.. it's good to see I'm not the only one on the forum who doesn't do "relationships.." I don't really see the point of it all, given the aggravation.. but I do enjoy hearing others' tales of romantic woe, and a lot of great books and movies use romance as a plot device, so I'm fine with the idea.

I was lying on my back at the back of a Unitarian church, late one night, with hippies lying all over me for warmth, smoking afghani hash. A girl lying with her head draped across my belly refused the joint when it was passed around, and she started surrepticiously stroking my belly under my shirt. Twenty minutes later we were going at it like the wanton beasts we both were between the pews. And that's how my first relationship started.

Twenty minutes later we were going at it like the wanton beasts we both were between the pews. And that's how my first relationship started.

Dad .... ?

I haven't had a relationship. :(
It's ok, your death will be quick and painless. You won't worry about who you're leaving behind. :D

Of course, you'll never have experienced a relationship either, so... you can't have it both ways, really.

That's awesome. I can kinda imagine something like that happening at my church, except my church has movie theater seats, not pews.

What's Reno?
Mid-sized city in Northern Nevada, 3rd largest in the state (which isn't saying much as Nevada is just over 2 million).

Kind of a smaller, less wild version of Vegas, but with better suroundings, nicer people, and actual history.

In terms of great places to see in America, having lived there for 7 years, it doesn't rank on the top 10 list, or the 50, or even the 100.

It is a good place to use as a base to go see a lot of those other places though. ;)
