Yesterday (October 10th) Windsor, Nova Scotia held its 7th Annual Pumkin Regatta.
Rain couldn’t dampen spirits
WINDSOR - A little rain? It’s nothing. A celebrity no-show? No big deal.
It’d take more than that to put an end to the Windsor-West Hants Pumpkin Regatta 2005.
In heavy rain, about 45 participants paraded in town as if the seventh annual event was just like any other — eager to display their proud work.
From a “Punk-in” (a pumpkin painted black with “The Clash” spray-painted on the side) to a Harbour Hopper look-alike, the paddlers demonstrated the hours they put into hollowing, painting and preparing their large pumpkins into sea-worthy apparatuses that would get them to the finish line on Lake Pesaquid.
For the third year in a row, Leo Swinimer Sr. proved at the age of 70 that when it comes to pumpkin paddlin’ it’s part nature, part nurture. He and his son, Leo Swinimer Jr., dominated the two races — Swinimer Sr. the paddler and Junior the motorized racer.
That's right. In Nova Scotia, people race giant pumpkins across lakes. :D
