What're your favorite non-mainstream or specialist news sites?

Here are some of mine:

Military:
http://strategypage.com/ - reports news military on military events, as well as the hows and whys of current conflicts

http://www.g2mil.com/ - independent warfare research

Japan:
http://japantoday.com/ - A couple of nice little features like the quote and picture of the day.

http://mdn.mainichi-msn.co.jp/ - some of the fastest news on Japan in English, plus the Wai-Wai section carries the best stories from the Japanese tabloids - you can't find them elsewhere in English

Military.com (http://www.military.com/), which is an excellent source of unbiased news about things military. Yes, I said unbiased! :p

Scientific American (http://www.sciam.com/) is the best site for news about science, IMHO.

Snopes's Urban Legend (http://www.snopes.com/) pages are an invaluable source for verification of Internet and other rumors.

For my partisan jolly needs, The Smirking Chimp does a fine job. I tend to cherry-pick the more reputable sources linked there, as there definitely are some nut-job stories linked.

You might want to check out The Second Draft (http://www.seconddraft.org/). I didn't list it because it isn't a news source per se. LGF also doesn't qualify, I suppose, and neither does ICT (http://www.ict.org.il/).

Pacifica Radio

It was founded during WWII to protest the war. Yes! People did protest WWII, especially before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Pacifica has affiliates in most major cities of the US and an internet broadcast. I don't have the link. What I like most about Pacifica is that is is TOTALLY listener funded, refusing corporate money. That leaves Pacifica free to tell the real truth and not just what the corporations want us to hear.

LOL yup.

He leaves relatively little commentary, even less than Tim Blair, so I suppose it could be seen as a very picky, agenda driven news feed. But then many a blog should also be listed in that category.
