From Ashes to Ashes and Dust to Diamonds? What?

This picture released by LifeGem, shows one of their creations: a diamond made from the ashes of cremated remains. LifeGem uses super-hot ovens to transform ashes to graphite and then presses the stone into blue and yellow diamonds that retail for anywhere from 2,700 to 20,000

Common Grandma, hurry up and die already, I need me a new diamond ring! :p
(on the other hand, is it really all that bad? Or just bizarre?)

I think it sounds pretty awesome. Maybe I'll do that with my mum when she kicks it down the road. I'm sure she would've wanted it that way :D (Not like she's not going to be leaving me crap-loads of fine jewelry already, but what the hell, y'know?)

I wonder if I'd try it on a pet dog first, to see how I felt about actually wearing my "Rover the earring" around.
Would I end up treating it like regular jewelry or would I hold it dear for being what it used to be?

it must cost a tad more than a real diamond but if someone want to turn me into a diamond be my guest (but I wouldn't want to be a toe ring or a fat girl belly piercing  )

Yeah, I think that people are overlooking the economic entropy involved here. If one could convert their dearly departed into a gem at a cost less than the gem itself, then the company would not bother to cater to the public and just use whatever to make their own diamonds and sell them.

I admit I do not know what they are charging for this process. However, they would get more than they do from artificial diamonds (like for drill bits and other tools etc.,) they don't get much for those. Cubic Zirconium and all that aren't worth much either...
But, tell me It's Grandma Elderberry and it becomes more valuable than a regular out of the ground diamond to at least one family...

You'd spend upwards of 2000 on yer dog? And just for ONE earring?
My parents and I discussed this earlier this afternoon -- I let them know that they'll be a nicely matched set of earrings, and that my husband will be a ring. They think it's sick, but eh, y'know......once they're dead, what are they going to do? Too late to disinherit me :p

What they're doing is thoroughly possible, if you apply high enough heat and pressure. It's awesome, isn't it?
You know...I would make my lazy ol' kitty a diamond. Maybe as many as I can out o' kitty ashes.....Just to show here how much she is worth to me...Well...theoretically show here how much...but sinc she would be dead...oh well, at least if I'm in a financial crisis, I can sell Ms. Kitty away in the form of 25,000 for each piece of her.

I don't know how many sleuthing novels have covered this but by golly someone could make a buck with this.

When I die, I'm gonna become a cursed diamond. Well, I'll actually be a good luck diamond at first, as long as it stays in the family, but as soon as someone sells it or so, BAM! Cursed.
That and haunt the internet. Totally haunting the internet.

Heard about it before..but..heh. Imagine having a diamond encrusted ring composed of your loved ones and enemies. Especially the latter. Hehe.

I'm SO making my parents into Diamonds when they die.
I need some way to get my funeral money back.
