As if the French Quarter wasn't wild enough. Now, Mayor Ray Nagin is proposing a casino in that section of the city. The Big Easy, with its easy women, liquor, and jazz may now get easy money thrown into the mix. Is this what the city needs, or is it mixing itself a very toxic beverage?

He's plans to do this after they've gotten rid of the water, right?

Most likely. Then again, large sections of New Orleans are repopulated, and for the first time since Katrina, the city's drinking water was declared safe to drink. My only question is if they feel they can do this without mold contaminating the casino, or the rest of the French Quarter for that matter.

It's really not a big deal. If you have ever been to New Orleans and the French Quarter, you would know that there is already a casino within walking distance, Harrah's, and it is land based right at the end of Cannal St. The real problem is with the overwhelming corruption in Louisiana and the Dixie Mafia.

It can't be solved unless the culture is changed down there. New Orleaners are, for the most part, too laid back and complacent. Contrast this with, say, a New Yorker, who are so uptight and have such short attention spans.

I agree for the most part about the New Orleaners and their complacence. There are basically 3 types of people that live in New Orleans, Society types, Caterers to tourism types, and Government Cheese types. All others are just temporary workers and it has been that way from the begining of the city. About the New Yorkers, yes they may be uptight but I don't think they have short attention spans. I think they are just tired, like most people I know, of terror mongers ruling their everyday lives.

Trust me about New Yorkers. I am one.
Anyhow, I'm also part Italian. This is exactly the same type of climate in Italy, that everything must wait for domani. For the past few hundred years, therefore, Italy's been known for nothing other than corruption, tourism, and the mafia. Fascism was an utter fluke, and it says something that Mussolini was hanged upside down and naked.

I don't what kind of water New Orleaners would be drinking - all those chemicals and oil to provide some extra zing?

I think the water treatment facilities are back up and running. Granted, New Orleans water probably isn't as safe as many municipalities, but it does meet the minimum standard of safety.
