No, I'm pretty sure he means "a little bit of German".

After all, Dutch people are "Niederländers" (or something, my German is pretty darn rusty) in German. Or sometimes "Holländers".

I have no idea what the word for "female dog" is in German, though.

I find the term "Foreign Languages" a bit outdated, as it ostracises people. Then again, I am from Canada, where one could argue no languages are any more foreign than others.

So...

I speak English, ich spreche auch Deutsch, je parle un peu Français; and I know a smattering of words and phrases in other languages, like "tatlı yavru, öp beni!" in Turkish (I could probably do karaoke in the language). My Swedish pals are also trying to clue me into their lingo, but so far all I can say is "öl".

My grandfather once taught me how to count in Gaelic, but I have forgotten :( .

Yeah, they've had them since 1776, when the Founding Fathers of the US decided that people should be free to speak whatever language they wanted.

...I think it makes no sense to go around calling Deutsch 'German' and the like. Why bother using external definitions for something that defines itself internally? I mean, what logic is there in changing what a language is called when addressing it in another language? It takes away the whole essence of it.

I could see someone preferring transliterations for languages in other scripts, just for the sake of clarity. On the whole, though, I think it makes more sense to reduce things to the simplest form.

It's wrong. 點 would be correct. 我會說中文一點. Although 中文 usually refers to the written language. 普通話 or 國語 are more acceptable terms for the spoken language.

You may think that's funny, but you're going a little to far.

Afrikaans, a little Xhosa and even i'Zulu.

I know how to say "Back the fuck up, fool! You picked the wrong bitch to carjack!". Which is the most important phrase anyone needs to know when traveling South Africa.

I've won competitions for my Spanish, but I also know a few words of French, German, Japanese, Russian, Chinese, Latin and Czech. By no means, though, am I any proficient in any language other than Spanish and English, with my preference being to the English. I know most of the nuances of English, but I've only had four years worth of Spanish.

Like I said, a LITTLE Chinese. Hanyu would be more correct. Although by the looks of it, you're using Traditional Chinese, whereas I'm more used to Simplified. That's Taiwan for ya.

I don't know any foreign language. I'm just really lucky when trying to type here on the forums :p

Nah, I know english, a bit of german, a bit dutch, I am understood by norwegian and danish people (shocker), though I've got no freggin' idea what the danes are saying. I was thinking of taking italian as well this year, but I decided not to, I've got my hands full with german anyway...

Native swedish.

Oh, and I also know what 'Excuse me, how much does the prostitute cost?' and 'A pint, please' in spanish. My uncle claims that's all the spanish I'll ever need.

I think you mean "einen muffin".
:-P

As I said, I don't know any language structure, just a few words.

By the way, roughly translated to English, my one-liner meant "Give me one muffin with blueberry!"

Further amusing: I found out that my middle and last names meant "Gift from the Black God" in Czech. Not many people can claim that.

I speak English and Serbo-Croatian.

I took German for 3 years, but I quit German because the teacher was a treehugging, feminist, lesbian.

I'm taking Italian right now. I will quit Italian also because mostly freshmans are taking it.

My mother tongue is Gujarati, spoken in the Western state of Gujarat in India. I know enough to participate in conversations, though I'd be unable to participate in debates on the economy, politics or agriculture. I can read slowly, which isn't always helpful with my limited vocabulary.
I speak English fluently, of course.
I speak French well enough to make conversation. I can read French books, though not always very well, and often require the aid of a dictionary.
I spent four years studying German in Britain, and gained an A* qualification. This means I am fully able to ask where the toilets are, and little else.
Other than that, I know the odd word in several other languages, but speak none fluently. I'm also learning Quenya at the moment, go me.
