You ever played it? Freakin' amazing. Beautiful flute and piccolo part. I'd love to do it again.

Or are you just one of them choral individuals? ;)

Excellent piece of music. Though you are aware he was a big-time Nazi sympathizer, right?

Frankly, Orff was mediocre at best and utterly eclipsed by the real Romantic titans such as Wagner, Berlioz, Tschaikowsky, et al. Carmina Burana is rather trite and is quite a bore. Listen to Tannhauser or Symphonie Fantastique; now there's some real music.

He has one piece I like. I honestly prefer more modern pieces such as stuff from John Williams, James Horner, and pieces like Lacrimosa.

Modern? Lacrymosa? It's been a movement of the Requiem Mass for centuries. Mozart died while writing his Lacrymosa, within his Requiem.

NB: This is not intended to be facetious. It is intended to be a reminder that many musical terms are far older than they appear, so claiming terms can appear foolish.

If you like the Carmina, try then "Also sprach Zarathustra" by Richard Strauss. Lovely

Kubrick used only the Sunrise, but all the poem is great, IMHO. The Night-wandered's song is a must.

Carmina Burana would be an unbelievably great piece if it wasn't for the words - when I found out they're just about (basically) horny teenagers and angst and stuff it all but ruined that piece for me.

Orff's music was pretty good, but the reason he is so freaking cool is for his contributions to music education.

I don't know the Carmina Burana all too well, at least not all of it.

Fairly typical for his time though. He could have done something radically original, at least. :headbang:

Actually the texts are the most interesting part of this opera...
