I choose ROTS, but I would rather choose all! I'm a Star Wars fanatic!
I literally cried a little bit in the theater, lickily my little brother didn't notice it (he makes fun of me about that). I cried when Padme died and she had her funeral. Damn, it was the most emotional movie ever in Star Wars history! I might cry again when we get the movie!
(Man, I really want all movies of Star Wars, but I only have The Phantom Menace :( )

Dude I ama starwars nerd..I love them all..I guess only us hardcore fans can say that...everyone said that the prequels were stupid and gay and what not, but think of the struggle that goes on in Anakin. I mean come on these are pristine, classic movies..it should be like written into law that everyone should have to watch the movies

NO KIDDING! Star Wars is like a religion to us! And I strongly disagree that the prequels are gay! They play the most important part in Star Wars: Anakin's struggle, his story of how he became the big bad Vader he is, the death of Padme and the birth of Luke and Leia, the Clone Wars that led to the fall of the Republic, how Palpatine gave birth to the Empire from the very ashes of the Republic, the extermination of the Jedi Order. No more to say because you all get my point.

I would have to say "Star Wars- A New Hope" was the best because it was such a new type of movie.
My personal favorites were 2 and 3.

Return of the Jedi my favorite movie is. The Ewoks I cannot resist. Adorable they are! The only bad thing about it is, dead Yoda is. Yoda I miss. In the first three movies, wonderful Yoda is! Great the way he talks is. I think George Lucas is at his best when he films cute little characters like the Ewoks, Yoda and Artoo, more or less in that order. And Artoo gets his share of filming in Return of the Jedi.

In order of my favorites...
1. Return of the Jedi (just... awesome)
2. Star Wars- A New Hope
3. The Empire Strikes Back (though, an argument could be made that this is the best one due simply to the sheer hilarity of the fact that, with the knowledge of hindsight, Leia frenches her own brother, Luke).
4. Revenge of the Sith
5. Attack of the Clones (cheesy as hell title, but at least Jar Jar Binks wasn't too prominant)
6. The Phantom Menace (I hate Jar Jar Binks. Die, Jar Jar, die!)

If it wasn't for those damn Ewoks, I would have chosen VI, the scene where Luke went berserk against Vader was one of the best. As is, I have to chose V.

I noticed no one has voted for one or two :) I'm glad to see there's real fans here.
Anyway, my rankings are as follows;
1. Empire Strikes Back (Excellent drama, great Luke/Vader climax)
2. Return of the Jedi (Alot of action, great three-way climax and excellent drama)
3. A New Hope (Exposition done in such an entertaining way, it's hard to believe it's the first part of a major epic. Supprisingly good graphics for a film made in the seventies)
4. Revenge of the Sith (An excellent movie in it's own right. Only fourth by virtue of the excellence of the origional three, Stunning climax in which the audience is almost brought to tears. A fitting end for the series)
5. Attack of the Clones (Obviously geared more towards selling tickets and merchindise than telling a story. Not a bad stand-alone movie, but not a good addition to the series)
6. Phantom Menance (Only Jar Jar could be more annoying than little Anakin!)

So form whay I gather, everyone here thinks Jar Jar Binks ROCKS eh? I'll bet he could be a jedi and teach Darth Vader a thing or two!

As a fairly hard core fan, might not qualify do to perfering the EU, I have to disagree. I like the AotC, although I think it could have been beter, I mean it was originaly described as armies of Jedi vs armies of cloned Boba Fett equivalent what could have beat that? The third was almost as good as the the original trilogy, but recieves a major downgrade for the lamness of Darth Vader's screaming NOOOOOOoooooooooo, it could have been much more dramatic to see him pushed over the edge and go totaly apeshit in his destruction of the OR. The first one was just crap, as simple as that, it isn't even necessarily the plot, that could have been saved by leaving out JarJar and having made Anakin Luke's age. Personally I would have prefered that they spent the first two movies on the clone war and focused the third on the Jedi purge, put I can live without that.

1. Empire. Hands down, the best.
2. A New Hope. Simply, classic.
3. Revenge of the Sith. Nice and dark, would have been #2 except for the aforementioned untra-lame "Noooo" by Vader at the end.
4. Return of the Jedi. Great movie. However, Personal foul, unnessecary lameness, Ewoks. 15-yard penalty, stupid spin-offs.
5. Attack of the Clones. It could have been worse.
6. The Phantom Menace. Jar-Jar. Nuf said.

3. RotS
4. RotJ
5. TPM
6. AotC
I listed TPM slightly higher purely because I thought that teenage-angst Anakin was equally painful as little boy lost Anakin to watch, but TPM had a better lightsaber fight (second only to the down-and dirty grudgematch in RotS).

tESB
RoTJ

RoTS
AoTC
I refuse to even list tPM because
A.Jar Jar
B.Romance between baby ankin and teenage padme
C.THE IDIOT WHO THOUGHT UP GUNGANS
I also thought that RoTS was a little weak because the
1.Apperent fasination with cutting of limbs
2.The Big Bad Super Villan NOOOOOOOOoooooOOOOOoooo
3.NEVER USE BOX OUT, BLINDS UP,CUT LEFT ect. IN A BIG SCREEN MOVIE. LEAVE THEM IN THE STUPID THIRD GRADE iMOVIES NOT A HUGE ACTION DRAMA!!!!!!
sorry about that. I'm better now.
But anyway I LOVE STAR WARS. And so I think my opinion counts for something.

ESB has a commanding lead :)
For the record, Phantom Menence did have one redeaming scene. I loved the final fight between Maul, Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon. There was just too much Jar Jar and little Anakin to keep it from the bottom spot, though. So it wasn't that it was a bad movie, just the worst of the Star Wars movies by far.

1. ESB.
2. ANH
3. ROTJ.
4. ROTS
5. AotC
6. PM
There it is.
The list, in order of excellence.
ROTS and ROTJ are hard to choose.
Jedi was diminished by the presence of the Ewoks.
What kind of evil dominating empire can be brought low, by killer teddy bears?
ROTS was technically better, but not only had poorer dialougue, but one of the worst lines ever, in film.
That gets negative points.
Bonus points are awarded to ROTJ, for the sense of closure it brought with Vaders death.
I would like to go on record, and say that Count Dooku, while kinda cool, was a pointless character.
His role was un-needed, and Darth Maul was much more impressive.
Killing that character was a waste.
All that was needed, is someone for Anakin to replace, at the side of Palpatine.
Maul would have sufficed, and his character developed in the second film.

Count Dooku is not pointless because as the Sith need a Master/apprentice, Dooku took over from Maul.
Then you get the situation where the Chancellor encourages Anakin to kill Dooku leading to a vacancy which Ani is well suited for by this point. I think Maul was killed because you need closure over the death of Qui Gonn. There was no way out really for Obi Wan or Maul.
Heres my ranking based upon the best lightsabre fight in each film.
1) AotC Yoda v. Dooku. Enough said.
2) RotJ Luke v. Vader. Luke nearly turned!
3) TPM Maul v. Qui Gonn & Obi Wan. A two bladed lightsabre!!
4) RotS Anakin v. Obi Wan. Sheer desperatism from both of them.
5) ESB Luke v. Vader. Money shot comes from the script not the fight.
6) ANH Obi Wan v. Vader. Big time YAWN overshadowed by all of the above.

Nonsense.
Maul need not have died.
Qui-Gonn's death didnt need closure.
In fact, most of the jedi's died such ignoble deaths.
Anakin needed to kill Palpatines apprentice, in order to replace him.
This also, serves to demonstrate Anakins slide to the dark side, by his blatant murder of an unarmed man.
However, Maul could have easily been that person.
As for "no way out", Dooku found a way out, from a fight with Yoda, didnt he?
Think about it.
Any role that Dooku had, could have easily been done by Maul.

I've loved Star Wars ever since I first saw it some 16 years ago (yes, I'm probably a relative newcomer to the series compared to some of you!). I'd list my favourites as:
1. Revenge of the Sith (although this might be because I've seen it more recently I suppose)
2. Return of the Jedi (I just love that line to Palpatine "I am a Jedi Knight... like my father before me". Classic)
3. A New Hope (Self explanatory. Started the whole thing off)
4. Attack of the Clones (Full of cheesy dialogue, but what Star Wars movie isn't? Some great fight scenes and you begin to fully see Palpatines plan.
5. Empire Strikes Back (Never been as keen on this one as some people. I do love the "I am your father" part, as we all do, but I just feel it is lacking something I can't place)
6. The Phantom Menace (I DO like this movie, I don't see why people put it down so much, but I also think it is the worst of the series. The podrace looks good, even if it is a bit too long, and Maul is one hell of a cool bad guy).

Heres my ranking based upon the best lightsabre fight in each film
Well if you're going to go there, then the rankings get all screwed up. Only here can episodes one and two beat episode four.
1. RotS - "You were my brother Anakin. I loved you." Obi-Wan and Anakin, two brothers locked in mortal combat. I almost cried.
2. RotJ - Luke: "I am a jedi, like my father before me." Palpatine: "So be it, jedi." Good vs. Evil Vs. variable good and evil.
3. ESB - "No, Luke. I am your father." The greatest plot twist in movie history.
4. PM - ...there were no lines Qui-Gon dies before Obi-Wan's eyes. The jedi seeks closure without revenge.
5. AotC - "EEEEEEHHHHHAAAAAA!" A little obvious and a little corney, but damn good.
6. ANH - "If you strike me down, I shall become more powerfull than you can possibly imagine." It just looked like Vader was toying with Obi-Wan. It was a pretty one-sided fight.
