Hello there; sorry about all those nasty caps. This is the anal retentive part of me speaking out. Fellow Christians:

Children, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that the antichrist was coming, so now many antichrists have appeared.

Who is the liar? Whoever denies the that Jesus is the Christ. Whoever denies the Father and the Son, this is the antichrist. No one who denies the Son has the Father, but whoever confesses the Son has the Father as well.

This is how you can know the Spirit of God: every spirit that acknowledges Jesus Christ come in the flesh belong to God, and every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus does not belong to God. This is the spirit of the antichrist that, as you heard, is to come, but in fact is already in the world.

Many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh; such is the deceitful one and the antichrist.

And there we have it. "Antichrists" are not the same as the "Beast" or his false prophet that are mentioned in Revelation. An antichrist is simply anyone who denies Jesus' divinity and sole saving power; we need to be reminded that all love flows from Him.

George W. Bush, therefore, is not an antichrist. Whether he's the beast or not is a completely different thread... ;)

The definition of the word antichrist has changed over time, just like the definition for many other words. Nowadays when people use the term antichrist, they are generally reffering to the false prophet spoken of in Revelations who will trick humanity into accepting the mark of the beast.

Since I'm an atheist and I don't believe in their fairytales I am an "antichrist" but a man who invaded another nation, and lied to do it, is fine?

The antichrist is here and is walking the planet, this is no secret. The difficult task amongst all the religions is to lacate him, as he has defined all forms of location, yet within the inner circles at Mount Athos it has been rumoured that they have pin pointed his location but cannot move against him, as it is well known that the humans beings must deny him the kingdom wich he seeks to controll. This will be our most feared battle. Remeber that when irrational becomes rational it is the final point when all nations, creed, colour and religion will unite to promote an organization which will promote peace and harmony across the globe, this is the moment in our human existence were he will present himself and be elected by the majority of the world popullation.

I'm thinking about the Egypt-incident (the Pharao let the Israelites go, then god hardened the Pharao's heart, and did it over and over and over again, letting god torment people) and the ten commandments (an allpowerful, flawless being reates man in his image, then he/she/it forbids humans to do what they can, but god can do whatever he/she/it likes, such as revenge).

Sorry if you consider this flaming, but these two incidents have always disturbed me in christianity. A merciful god that kills the firstborn children of an entire country? Doesn't sound very merciful to me...

Some have interpreted this as God displaying his power, along with a combination of wrath (for Egypt) and mercy (for Israel), perhaps showing the distinction between those who are for Him and those who work contrary to His wishes.

Some actually interpret the "hardened Pharoah's heart" bit to mean that Pharoah just got mad at God. For instance, if I "piss someone off" and "make them act like a jerk", I'm not actually forcing them to do any of these things; it's just their reaction to me.

This is just me rambling, of course.

But the humans are better people for living the way God wants them to EVEN WHEN they have the ability and perhaps even inclination to do otherwise. Those that make it through are better (arguably, anyway) than the mindless robots that would result from an alternative means.

Very true.

The semantics part of me, the part that created the "Grammatically Sound Republic" of Passivocalia, likes to distintinguish words whenever possible. A lot of people who throw around the word "Antichrist" are strict fundamentalists, though, so they'd probably care to know where it shows up in the Bible. I just get tired of takes like Left Behind sometimes, you know?

Uhhh. But, yes. I'm also the type of Christian who gets more irked by seeing "2005 AD" than I do by seeing "2005 CE". The reason? Anno Domini means "in the year of our Lord", so it should be "in the year of our Lord 2005", or "AD 2005", with the letters before the numbers.

But, there is the whole thing about Latin being rearrangable in sentences, so that probably shouldn't bother me.

How can you say that anyone who believes in a religion other than yours is an antichris or going to hell? If you expect people worshipping older religions to change so readily, why aren't Christians expected to change with the times?

For anyone who's read "Angels and Demons": The antichrist should be a great leader who denies religion. Someone like Einstein or Hawking (or someone who hasn't been born yet). God relies on faith (aka belief without proof). These people spent their lives trying to find proof. Does the bible state specificaly that the antichrist is evil?

I had a dream a few months back where a voice that was neither man nor woman said "The Christchild is born. You are the Antichrist."

For example, once I was standing on top of a tall mountain holding a cross. The mountain was far taller than any earthly one, so high that I could see the highest clouds far below, but yet I could still breathe. I was holding the cross in my left hand, with the end pointing down towards the clouds, and I realized that it was made of fire; but it did not burn my hand. I threw it down and the mountain caught fire, with rings of flames dancing around me; yet I was not burned. Meanwhile I heard a voice shouting in Aramaic, neither man nor woman, but disembodied, calling out, "I have weighed the sins of humanity, and they are heavier than a feather! Destroy, my birds, from the deeps of the ocean, bring out the monsters to drive reason from the one who walks the narrow bridge between two deaths!" Looking up, I saw 144 eagles bearing twigs in their mouths descending from the sky. They all alighted atop my head and shoulders, and I took the 144 twigs, lit them in the fire, and hurled them... and woke up to discover that I had sleepwalked from my bed all the way out of the house, and back inside all the furniture and everything had fallen out of place and broken.

The funny thing is, I don't even speak Aramaic...

yes the antichrist is evil. there are many antichrists. The beast and the antichrists are different. When most people talk about the 'antichrist' they really mean the beast.

The conversation about the beast in Revelation is highly symbolic, and hard to follow without a lot of study. Most of it makes no sense whatsoever at face value.

As a Christian myself, I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiment ("fairy tales" aside ;)). Fundies and false banner-wavers do more damage from within than anyone could ever do from the outside.

So what i am saying is that the antichrist even the devil will know of the divinity of Christ and heck prolly will even use it to get to power then turn on it later.
