I would have never thought this possible, but it appears there are actually some within the Democratic Party that might actually be getting the point,

What point? To imitate the Republicans, and finally turn the US into a one-party state?

I see this as a potentially dangerous sign. Democrats that are actually sensing the desires of the people and responding to it instead of trying to force-feed their agenda to the masses. There is no threat of this country becoming a one-party system. We are simply too far apart at the present time.

Son, there's something I need to tell you. If any party had common sense, they wouldn't be in charge.

How Democrats can win: throw as much mud as the Republicans.

You're joking, right?
It seems to me the first thing the Democratic party needs to do is understand that nuanced points of views, the ability to understand and take a view compatable with complexity, and any argument more subtle than a sledgehammer is unlikely to endear them to the voting public...

As far as I am concerned, the Democrats pander to the average joe just as much as the Republicans. Its just that the average joes that the Democrats pander to either don't want to be average joes, or don't realize they are average joes.
God, I'm tired.

Yup, it's impossible. :D
Seriously, quit insulting 3/4 of the country and maybe we'll get someplace.

Actually, I think this is why they lost. Throwing mud helps motivate their base, but also has the affect of turning away moderates.

Gee what a great idea! Let's have ALL the parties abandon their traditional causes and just take whatever position that'll get them elected. Because if they do that, the real winner will be DEMOCRACY! Hurrah!

I think your low balling the 75% of us being insulted. But yes your right. For one I would like to see the Democrats field a decent platform and viable candidate. Right now they look like a joke. Hillary isnt going to cut it either.

I disagree. Their mudslinging was really halfassed and unenthusiastic in '04. Conservatives had a masterful campaign that did an excellent job of getting lots of press attention and demolishing first Dean and then Kerry in the court of public opinion, while the liberals really seemed to lack the ability to get any serious momentum behind their own attempts at slandering the conservatives right back.

Honestly though it wasnt that difficult. My 9 year old could have come up with a campaign to make Kerry and Dean look bad. So what is the Democrats answer to that last election? Make Dean the head of the DNC! Lol, Damn crazy if you ask me. Do they really want to win another major election?!

You must be joking....the Bush administration has been one long barrage of mudflinging...everyone from dissenters within the ranks to French politicians to Texan country singers...if your not with Bush, look out for the mud pie flying your way... :p

Well, this is just my perception, but:
The Republicans have been throwing their fair share of the mud, but the people throwing the mud also stand up and say they "have a plan" and then try to say what their plan is and do things to put it in place. With thought, most can see the plan is nothing but smoke and mirrors, but the average american doesn't think that hard. On the other hand, the Democrats stand up and throw their share of the mud, but they don't follow up with any sort of plan, they just keep throwing more mud. Anytime something stick, even just a little bit, they orgasm and throw more while telling everyone how good their orgasm was. However, they don't tell us what their plan is to make things better.

Right there I think you've done a fine job of articulating yet another myth that the Democrats are going to have to abandon if they wish to return to public office. The "Republicans fight dirty so we have to fight dirtier" myth, while serving to give the Democrats carte blanche from their conscience to do whatever they want during an election, causes them to act out in ways that discredit them with the general public. Even if the "Republicans fight dirty" part of their myth were true they would still be better advised to make a point of being honorable because it is for the challenger to prove to the public that he would be *better* than the incumbant.
The "Tommy does it too" approach is something that only an incumbant can use with any hope of a benefit and even then the use of such an arguement is a sign that the incumbant is on the way out. And on the occasions when Tommy clearly doesn't do any such thing it only highlights just how badly in the wrong the person accusing Tommy really is. As a rationalization for bad behaviour from the party that is out of power it only serves to fix the Mark of Doom(tm) upon their brow.

Well not to that extent, but the Dems do need to do something, American prospective has changed dramatically and the Dems need to accomodate this. The divide between the supporters of the two parties has merged and is no longer as distinctive as it once was-they need to ask themselves why? Tho it has to be said the Democrats have been a little slow on the uptake, they should have learned from this in 2000.
