NationStates Radio?

Hmm, I was reading Amerigo's thread about his college radio, I was bored with it so I read teh one about Taylor Behl and it inspired me. Perhaps we should have a NS radio? Yes, someone could be the disk jockey, possibly Sdaeriji, Fass, Pure Metal, or even Drunk Commies. They could rant and rave and take in calls. What an idea! Alas, it will never be...but what do you think?

Just as long as I get to make a periodic program about the military. :p

And I get to syndicate my jazz show. We could also have topical discussion shows on issues like 'abortion', 'fetuses' or 'abortion'. And we could keep Gruenberg away from the comedy section.

I want the freaky sex chat show with people calling in and asking stuff, and I evangelise how they should just go gay already. Oh, and play the latest house from the backrooms* of Europe.

Good idea...

I want the Czardas show, set for a prime time slot! I talk about why I'm so great, and people call in with questions about me, usually (I hope) along the lines of "Oh Czardas, how did you ever possibly manage to get this absolutely great show on air?" rather than usual questions like "Why are you so weird?".... You know.

It'd be a call in show.

LG should have a show, yes. ;)

And then there should be a godmoding show hosted by Frisbeeteria.

"Stay tuned for our next event -- a war between Sephrioth and Hataria!" Frisbee says as gunfire sounds in the background.

Suggestion: Download Shoutcast and Winamp and test the waters first.

Frisbee: "The war starts out with Mynation nukes Yonation 'just coz i wuz bored'. Yonation returns fire with 100,000 ballistic nuclear-strength missiles against Mynation—and remember people, both of these are newbies with 6 million people—which explode all of his military bases and kill most of his citizens. Mynation brings his army, which somehow contains no fewer than 2 million people plus large numbers of tanks, planes, and 'lotsa other stuff that i wont tell u about but its raelly cool' into Yonation, destroying his army in a one-sided RP battle. About then, TJHairball steps in and locked the thread..."

The Podcast thing isn't half bad really.

But, in all honesty, NationStates radio should have little to nothing to do with us, the babbling horde of General. A BBC style world news report that covers I.I. and the actual Nationstates forum, where the people who actually play the game would probably be more appropraite. General would just be part of the deluge of white noise that already fills up every nook and crany of media.

Not that I wouldn't gladly participate, but I likey media.

It brings with it a sense of superiority, so you'd pick it up in no time.Lol. You're probably right. What I don't like about the metric system is that it's never been explained (to me) how they came up with the base measurements. Why is a meter the length it is? At least with a foot, it's 12 inches because some random king wanted it to be.

So do most Swedes have blonde hair, or is that just a stereotype?

Wikipedia has the answer, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metre) but if you can't be arsed to read it, the short version is that the French invented it and defined it as one ten-millionth of the length of the earth's meridian along a quadrant (one-fourth the polar circumference of the earth).

They weren't precise enough the first time, so in the 19th century they got together and defined the "International Prototype Metre" as the distance between two lines on a standard bar of an alloy of ninety percent platinum and ten percent iridium, measured at the melting point of ice.

That lasted until the 1960s, when it was more accurately redefined as equal to 1,650,763.73 wavelengths of the orange-red emission line in the electromagnetic spectrum of the krypton-86 atom in a vacuum. In the 80s they finally settled on it being the length of the path travelled by light in vacuum during a time interval of 1/299 792 458 of a second.

Interestingly enough, your "inch" is defined in centimeters nowadays.

So do most Swedes have blonde hair, or is that just a stereotype?

Hmmm, stereotype with basis in reality I'd say.

I thought it had to do with how much volume a given amount of water occupies - no, wait... uhh, it was a long time ago...

Thing is, I was taught in Metric measurement - but on graduating, found that most people in my fields of expertise still work in Imperial. It's not like it's become strange through lack of use - it's just become harder to visualize in Metric. Temperature is rock-solid Celsius for me. Now that does make better sense. But I think it's ludicrous to measure, say... a person's height in the hundreds of centimetres when there's perfectly good decimetres to measure with. Saying someone is 185 centimetres tall just doesn't work as well as 18.5 decimetres, somehow. So why do we only seem to stick with cm, m, and km? Up dm!

This doesn't have a lot to do with radio, though. I'm listening to my Launchcast radio station right now. Anybody have a Launchcast station besides me? (Mine is called qarlo6, btw)
Fass

Oh, we use decimetres all the time in day to day applications, but we stick to meters when saying how tall we are, for instance "Jag är en och åtta (åttio) = I'm one and eight (eighty)," being 1m and 8 dm (80 cm). I think it's a cultural thing. I've noticed decimetres being rarer in southern Europe.

The little ring above the "a" in "å" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%85)? It's simply called a "ring" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring_%28diacritic%29) in English.

No, I won't be like Howard Stern. I don't agree with keeping black women in aquariums.

I was thinking more along the lines of Opie and Anthony. Good wholesome entertainment like putting bikini clad women in 55 gallon drums and pouring disgusting things onto them to see who can stand it the longest and win a prize.

My campus radio station just turned me down for a DJ spot because I wanted to play classic rock. They claim they don't want to compete with the local classic rock station, which is a load of BS. I suspect the real reason is because the annoying little goth girl that is the program director doesn't want to play anything but what she likes.
