The "Pit" from "The Pit and the Pendalum" is an torture unknown to the reader. However, The Pendulam is device that cuts you up slowly over days, then the walls close in, heated so much, you suffer second degree burns when you're five feet away. The narrater said these could not compare with the horror of "The Pit".

The industrial laser seemed the least painful, but it would still be painful...
