That sounds like you saying something about it...
Reading the article, I inferred from the quote that the guy meant that there are other books out there, similar to Harry Potter. Now, perhaps I'm just being naive, but so what? And how is it homophobic calling Harry Potter gay, anyway? It's just defamation, surely?

He also told the children that Santa Claus wasn't real, served them rabbit stew for lunch and later revealed that they'd eaten the easter bunny, and showed the children a video of their parents making out.

If I were to quote, lets say Dave Chapelle, and call someone the n-word, it'd still be racist.. or am I wrong?

Different situation. It's an analogy, not a quote.

The guy said something like..."It's like 'Little Britain', you all know 'Little Britain', right?...Harry isn't the only gay in the village...there are other books like that out there."

If that's homophobic then I think I might go and kill myself.

Really, you need to have seen Little Britain to understand it.

I have, but I also know how impressionable 12 yr olds are.. If he'd been talking to adults then there probably wouldnt have been a problem

Depends. If it's obviously a quote that the vast majority of your audience would understand as being a quote, then no, probably not. Only if your audience doesn't understand it as a quote is it racist/offensive.
The majority of the kids probably understood the reference (from Little Britain), and so it's not homophobic. Unless you want it to be.

With Little Britain I can assure you that 99.9% of 12 year olds would get the reference. It's more likely to be adults that wouldn't.

I think I would be offended if someone brought down another book for shameless self-glorification. Especially considering how popular HP is with most people. Besides, he wouldnt have been cut short if noone was offended...

He wasn't taking down the book. In Little Britain this overly-camp guy:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/cumbria/content/images/2004/06/16/daffyd_203_203x152.jpg
called Daffyd claims to be the "only gay in the village" when, really, most of the village is gay. The speaker was saying how there are options other than Harry Potter, not attacking the book.

Besides, he wouldnt have been cut short if noone was offended...
Haha...yes he would. You're obviously not familiar with the extremes some people go to in the UK to be politically correct.

Harry Potter sucks anyway. The whole concept is plagarised from "The worst witch" series, and it has successfully revamped the old stereotype of British kids all going to boarding schools.

You mean, the truth is an untruth? The truth is a lie? But if x=y then y=x, so lies are also true. So I really am the Queen of the Universe and I really do live in a Fudgecicle World where all the buildings are made of chocolate!
*Bites wall*
No, nevermind, this building isn't made out of chocolate.

However, I fail to see what is wrong with calling Harry gay (even without the Little Britain thing), after all, if there is one thing that the Interweb has taught me, then Harry Potter repeatedly gets raped by Snape and Hagrid. No really, about half of all Harry Potter slash fiction is about Harry and Snape or Harry and Hagrid.
Now, if we aren't leading these people out and shooting them, I fail to see why some Priest guy should be bothered at all.

Monty Python vs. The (Crappy) Invisible man by Ralph Ellison
The Simspons vs. The Awakening by Kate Chopin
History Channel WW2 Documentaries vs. Anything Written by Noam Chomsky

I'm probably going to be called shallow, but I'd say that TV is not completely "crap" compared to books. TV may have more crap, but at least when there is something on TV that is crappy people admit that it is crappy. No one ever said that the Real World was "soaring and exalted", no one ever tried to pass Survivor off as "subtle and a brilliant kind of art", and I have yet to see anyone pretend that Adam Carolla was "the most important intellectual alive."
