The Right to Bare Arms

Having just covered this in a lecture the other day. I was just wondering what everyone's thoughts were on the right to bare arms. Should states curtail the right to bare arms in an attempt to improve safety and reduce crime. Or will banning the right to bare arms increase crime as more people attempt to bare their arms. Or maybe the state should only ban the right to bare large arms and not not small arms.
I'm not sure. What is the mentality behind the right to bare arms? I just don't get it.
On another note, what do you guys think of t-shirts.

Yay! People get it. I thought I might have to put in the thing about t-shirts so people would post spitting and foaming at the mouth about their right to bear arms.
I covered in a Methods lecture, where they told the dos and do nots of writing essays. One of which was don't use spellchecker to proof read your essays. There was this one guy who'd handed in an essay, and all the way through it talked about the right to bare arms. It was much more hilarious than what I wrote. But yay for spellchecker.

Next, let's discuss the right to arm bears.
For a second I thought it was another guncontrol thread. You got me :D

Where? I am appalled at the failure of the international news community to make a story of the fact that there is some nation somewhere that is completely free of violent crime.
i'm glad to see someone's defending the right to bare arms! it's something i feel very strongly about... since i went to a school where we weren't allowed to have our shoulders uncovered lest they prove a turn-on to young men!
the right to bare arms is one of the benefits of university life that i appreciate most deeply.

No one needs guns. The only person who should be allowed guns, is me :sniper: :D .
Anyway, yeah no guns. What would people do with guns anyway? Self defense? Dont gimme that. Take all the guns away and you won't need to do any self defense (of course... maybe you might wanna wear that chain mail just in case someone tries to stab you....)

I wear sleevelesss shirts so the chicks can drool over my guns.
I think only the police and the military should be allowed to carry firearms. What use does the common person have for a gun? Why can k-mart sell sub-machine guns? Who will use them, except those planning to do harm? The average person should have no right to own a weapon that is designed specifically for efficient killing. Of course, I live in a fairly liberal country, so my opinion may seem biased.

K-mart can sell sub-machineguns? Since when? and do you even know what a sub-machinegun is?

...Well, they don't any more ever since I... er, nevermind. Let's just say that I won't be going back to Maryland anytime soon.... :)
I don't see any evidence that my giving up tank-tops will make anyone safer... Why did that give me a disturbing image?

Ultimately the "state" controls the militia, whereby regulation occurs.... Overall, I have no problem with state regulation (or lack thereof) [However, the federal government should leave such determinations to the individual states of this Federatal Republic]...
As my state specifically defines me the right to bear arms as per the Code of Virginia and the Virginia Constitution (Article I, Section 13); as outlined therein, and by specific authority RESERVED TO IT by the Constitution of the United States; I expect the Federal government to abide by this issue which has been prohibited to it.
I have no qualms about issues in other states; as such.
i live in the mideast and here tshirts for women without sleeves are frowned upon even in the universities.
even in pakistan where i was born wearing sleeveless clothes is frowned upon
but then i guess that comes from the whole conservative muslim society in pakistan but its wierd in the mid east coz there are a lot of europeans here and the state next to where i am is like five minutes away and is as liberal as any liberal place in europe would be but i guess it changes depending on the state u are living in

I believe it is outdated and unnecessary in today's society. We have police to protect us against criminals and in most of the US we no longer need to worry about wild animals. I have no objection to firearms being permitted on licensed target shooting and hunting sites but I see no reason people should be allowed to remove the weapons from those sites.
Keep in mind, the original reasons for this amendment were personal protection, lack of a standing military and to reinforce that the US would have no nobility (non-nobles in other countries were not permitted to "bear arms" at the time).

As long as the bare arms do not belong to a bear why not ? Do you think people have the right to bare ass ? There seems to be alot of it going around , in fact i have been hearing alot aout the crack problem . The debate should be centered on the ass . Pull up your friggin pants !
Why do people keep bringing up fire arms in this thread ? Do wife beaters always wear "wife beaters" ? Lots of important questions to be answered here . Should " wattles " be limited and regulated ? How do "wattles " affect the right to bare arms .

It's October, and I'm in the UK. Bare arms is a right I'll willingly surrender much of the time until, ooh, March or so probably.
It was very useful in Spain last week, though. Coupled with the right to wear sunscreen.

I dunno... You've got to think of all the consequences. If you give people the right to bare arms, things can get hairy...

XD Great.
There seems to be a fair few people who didn't seem to get the joke and suddenly went into rant mode. I love it. There're some pretty good arguements, but they come under the heading of... oh... say, 'didn't read the main text'. I'll be getting more of these wonderful workings of spellchecker in a couple of days. I'm getting the handout emailed to me, and it contains dozens of these precious comments. :D
