Anyone know of any socialist websites for the presidency of the U.S. or on local or state levels?

I don't know. In my experience, simply getting people to take socialism seriously is hard enough.

Socialism… in… America? Truly a land of diversity.

Who would take an inefficient system based on thievery, punishing the successful, rewarding the lazy, and big government seriously?

That's basically every nation's government after a while. So... everyone?

Plus, we have the FDA, the Federal Reserve System, Medicare, Medicaid, Social(ist) (In)Security, Department of Education, a never-ending supply of business regulations which put thousands of small businesses out of business every year, affirmative action, minimum wage laws, TANF, dozens of other social welfare programs, so on and so forth. The federal government owns about 50% of the land in the entire country.

People say, "But look at all the privately owned companies, businesses, blah blah blah." Privately owned, yes, but in name only. Businesses are so crippled by regulations, restrictions, etc. that many of them outsource jobs and use child labor in countries with no respect for human life, rather than stay here and be slowly regulated to death.

Well, as soon as you get a government type that allows the people to vote themselves the contents of the treasury...

that's what you get.

Trouble is, what do you do when the money runs out.

That's why government should be as de-centralized and tiny as possible.

The U.S. economic system is an ugly crossbreed between socialism and corporatism/fascism. It's a welfare-warfare state.

It doesn't have any semblance of socialism.

Your welfare system is significantly weaker than those of the rest of the capitalist world, there is massive disparity between rich and poor, and workers do not have any control over (or representation within) the means of production.

The USA is not in any way socialist.

That sounds like a description of the modern capitalist state to me. Last time I checked, it was capitalists and not socialists who pushed for keeping millions in the pockets of those who merely owned property even though that money came from the hard work of people with miniscule wealth in comparison.

Maybe I was dreaming, but it looked like capitalists who praised mere ownership of stock while decrying teachers, janitors, food industry workers, and all the other people who make life for the rich so comfortable, as whiny and lazy for insisting on better wages for their important contributions to society.

I must have been hallucinating when Bush, a strong supporter of capitalism, pushed for all those laws like the Patriot act and those anarchist forms of socialism that I happen to be a supporter of must have been nothing more than an optical illusion and series of false memories. Yep, that's got to be it.

If your really looking for a semi-socialist alternative, Canada is right up north, with plenty of open space and people happy to have you. ^.^

Our most popular party (the Liberals) have their problems, as any political party is bound to, but generally tend to lean socially. Our conservative party (the Conservatives, how ironic =P) are kind of a joke to most people... they still have a fairly big following in Ontario and Alberta though (big business and all that). Our socialists (the New Democratic Party, or NDP) are recently coming back off a couple decades of being maligned (instituting policies that cost people money through taxes just is never popular, even if necessary), but have seen a large resurgance in the past few years. The last of the major parties is the Bloc (Parti du Quebecois, Quebec Party essentially) is a fairly regional party... essentially only having support in it's home province. For awhile it tried to suceed from the country, but that sentiment has settled down, and it's support has slowly been waning.

Anyways... we're always happy to fill our ranks with more liberal minded Americans. Or anyone really... come join the party. =)
