Again, why take it all so seriously?

Ok, here's a spin-off question from this thread: 'Why take it all so seriously? (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=447827)'

It seems that the most of the players of NS, myself included, play NS as a bit of a laugh(or at least the ones who voted in the poll). Now why do the the ones that take it seriously, do so? Why do they try to imitate real life as close as possible when real life already exists?

Please try to explain...

there are some people sitting at home just got in from doing thier 16 hours a week job down McDonalds who want to escape.

The cardinal rule of humanity (wooo don't i sound edumicated) is that everyone wants to be special so a bit of escapeism is often in order.

Theres no harm (i hope) so why not build an alternate reality for yourself to live in.

Now i gotta go begin an orbital bombardment of switzerland for not return my phone calls

We have got to be serious, because the Internet is serious business (almost as serious as the cocaine trade, but with fewer Columbian neck-ties).
Furthermore, only one of the most common sort would seek to lighten our debates on the meaning of life, the universe, and everything with low-brow wit, such as popular book references.
No, Sir Raven the Black, I must say that your proposal for escapism was quite unsettling to my monocle, and I do hope that from hence and on, you shall strive to maintain the dignity and seriousness of this discourse.
Remember, whether on the Sex Thread or discussing the Urinating habits of Nancy Drew, we must always maintain the established dignity of the world's greatest distributer of porn and bad grammar.
